Lamont “Mo Mo” Jones Oak Hill PG - 2009
I feel like VT is becoming the new Clemson when it comes to recruiting.
Dammit Kait!

I haven’t seen that anywhere except the syracuse board when I googled his name just now.

Lefty is always right, he doesn’t need to cite a source.

i saw that on espn.com.

if we get this guy, our 09 class would have to be ranked in the top 25.

Charlotte, Cinci and VT.
Virginia Tech loses 2 scholarship players this season: http://www.hokiesports.com/mbasketball/players/ 14 players on their roster, 2 are walkons (Panneton & Debnam), losing 2 to graduation.

They have 10 players on scholarship players in 2009, leaving 3 available for the class of 2009.

They have 4 commits already for 2009: http://virginiatech.rivals.com/commitlist.asp

Cincinnati has 14 players, 1 walkon: http://gobearcats.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/cinn-m-baskbl-mtt.html

They lose 1 senior this year, so they have 1 scholarship to give, and they have filled it with Sean Kilpatrick

I don’t see where Jones would have room on either squad.

we have one pg whos going to be a junior this year so he could play immediately in a system that gives its players a lot of freedom. who wouldnt want to play for a team like that? between him and whiteside, we are really going after some stars. if we land either of these guys i will be thrilled.

Damn its good to have Mox back

this would be an amazing grab.

it must suck to be VT - they keep losing to us in recruiting - lets hope it happens again

Victor Davilla made the wrong choice.
Victor Davilla made the wrong choice.
he’s broken.

id rather have braswell than davila anyways.
You’re right, we really should insult our recruits more often.
There’s been quite a few over the past 5 years who weren’t good enough to cut it at Charlotte.

Not really sure where you are getting this from… They have Dorenzo Hudson, Victor Davila, JT Thompson, and Deron Washington. We recruited all those guys pretty hard. What recruiting battles have we won over them? So far just braswell is all I can think of, but I could be missing someone.

Could throw Bowden in there as one we got. If we can win one out of 3 battles against Clemson, VT, Wake Forest…we’ll be in great shape.

Every single program has busts (Shavlik Randolph anybody?), that doesn’t mean fans can’t get excited about another potential recruit. That’s the whole point of the recruiting forum!!!
Victor Davilla made the wrong choice.
He has been quoted as saying he was ready to commit to Charlotte, but balked because Lutz didn’t have a contract extension. He wanted to make the right choice, but the leadership here made the wrong decision in delaying the contract issue until the end of the season.

Anyway, Jones, Sherrill and Braswell would be a very nice class, add in Bowden getting four years starting next season and that would be the best group of same-year players we’ve had in a while (on paper, of course).

While that is true, I try to offer a bit of pessimism. The past few years have killed me. If expecations are low, it equates to more excitement when they are exceeded.

Wouldn’t call a guy earning a NBA Paycheck a bust, I’ll admit he wasn’t exactly what he was billed at, but not many are.

I like your pessimism:
That’s 5 guys from Charlotte (3 played at Vance) and 1 Canadian who plays at Mt. Zion in Durham. Hopefully we can lock a few up in the future or now (depending on class). 3 Good PGs in there too, Rankin already has some big names on his list including Florida & Wake, with us showing interest. Might have to catch a Vance game or two in the future with some Niner gear to let them know we want them to stay home :).
Yea, it’s not secret I’d like to keep the good players home. Just think if all the players in the past from Charlotte had chose this institution.
