does anyone not think that the island is hell? i mean the opposite of being saved is Lost. the kids are “okay”. Hell is absence of God, and in the last episode “henry gale” said “God doesn’t even know how long we’ve been here”
From what I’ve read, the writers of the show have specifically said that the losties are not dead and in some purgatory or something.
see i havent watched all of 1 like I have of 2, but how was it ruled out
The “Purgatory” theory just became a popular notion amongst a lot of the viewers. I think that it was a TV Guide interview or another publication that did a story with the writers. That theory was brought up and the writers clearly stated that the island was not “hell” or some sort of purgatory.

the show does a good job of showing otherwise though

True. But I have a feeling that a lot of the seemingly “supernatural” occurences in the story are really visions that a particular character is having, or perhaps a shared vision by more than one person. It has been intimated that mind control is one of the several experiementations done by the island scientists. This kind of storytelling was evident in this last eppy with Hurley. The writers are sending us a clear message that what you or a character on the show sees should not necessarily be taken literally. This gives the writers a huge palette upon which to paint whatever bizarre event they want without resorting to some hokey science fiction plot.
I was told of a theory that is out now is that all the Losties were on the island as children and have now been brought back from the world. That would be interesting. It might explain why they all seem to have a connection to one another.
I don’t believe it’s purgatory, for one not everyone believes in it so a lot of your audience would be disappointed. Plus I think that’s too easy of an answer and would be an insult to the audience.
Meh…pretty lackluster episode. I normally enjoy the flashbacks but the Rose/Bernard one nearly put me to sleep. With that said, if the island is truly responsible for her illness suppression, then that could be an interesting aspect. But for the most part, I thought it was a very slow episode. The scene with Kate/Jack getting caught in the net was really good but unfortunately, it was short-lived.
The previews for the next episode looked great with Michael returning and a possible move by the castaways to storm the others.
Ok episode, I agree Benard and Rose aren’t the most exciting characters. I find that Rose’s story about seeing the faith healer was similar to Claire going to see the psychic (sp).
Two things were revealed, we now know why Kate and the others didn’t mention to Jack about the hatch and fake beard (I know we’ve discussed this on the board). Someone finally knows that Locke was in a wheelchair.
These episodes are a bit slow but I think the last few episodes and the season finale are going to be big.
Well I would not have thought they could make me yurn for Cahrlie and Hurley flashbacks, but they did it. Those were some painfully slow flashbacks with some people I could really care less about. Only thing remotely interesting was Locke’s appearance. I thought Michael showing up was very predictable and thought it was a little cheesy that he makes it to Jack and Kate, then passes out.
Sawyer once again had the line of the night with his Norma Rae comment to Bernard.
Did anyone notice a drawing of the hatch on the board the “healer” had set up that Rose was looking at for all the people he had helped before he entered? I did not record and thought I saw one. It also seemed that his patients were mainly children and I did not know if there was a tie in. They seemed to focus on one thank you note and I did not catch the signature. I might be reaching but the episode was so slow I thought that there had to be more.
The episode was fairly slow overall. If I were Jack, I definately woulda taken more time, hell even missed a couple of times, before shooting the rope. Was that the first time anyone on the island actually knew Locke was in a wheelchair?! interesting. I wonder what Jack will do with the knowledge of the other hatch now. If there is/was a drawing of the hatch on the “faith healers” wall… thats one hell of a catch. I’ll watch it again tonight to double check myself. Michael’s, albeit, brief return was interesting. Wasn’t completely expecting it. I had guessed it was walt running towards them (either real or phantasm). The grunts/noises sounded younger to me. In the Lost podcast, the writers have indicated that this was the last “calm before the storm” type episode before they rachet it up for the season fanale. Gonna be a good couple of weeks.

I went back and watched that portion you pointed out…

not sure what you’re refering too, the only thing I found wierd was the note was a kids note, but the signature definately wasn’t a kids signature. what kid that age knows cursive not to mention with that steady a hand.
