Lost (May Contain Spoilers!!)

Originally posted by jcl49er@Oct 6 2005, 09:28 AM I'm 100% convinced that the entire island IS in fact one big experiment on the human psyche. I think Hurley is one of the masterminds behind it all (certainly had the money to do so). I don't not believe that the plane ever even crashed (website showed it landed). I think the pirate ship/drug plane/main plane were planted. I think that the majority of the people on the island are in on the experiment and playing their part. Locke obviously worked for Hurley at one point and is part of the scheme (hence asking "what do I do now??"). Desmond is not in on it and I do not believe that Jack is either. I believe it's all just one big psychological experiment. Nothing is gonna happen if the button isn't pushed, which I feel is pretty obvious.

There are still some ambiguities but I think a lot of the pieces of the puzzle are coming together now.

jcl. If that is true I hope the guy that got sucked into the plane engine on the first episode got paid when he signed his contract. :o

Good point. That was a great scene by the way. Obviously some flaws in my theory but I do feel Hurley is behind a lot of what's going on and that other people on the island are in on it. Given Kate and Saed's personalities, I find it hard to believe that neither of them would have jumped to push the execute button. They seemed far too content with just letting the clock tick down, in hopes that Jack would be the one to push it.

And the guys on the boat… Michael, Jin, and Sawyer?

Sawyer… he’s had a rough go of things. He had bamboo shoots driven under his nails, laid out by Jack, shot in the arm… not to mention pulling the bullet out on his own, and clubbed by “shaft” (that line killed me).

You also have Arzt blowing up, in front of both Jack and Hurley. Would Hurley put himself at risk of blowing up as well, knowing the dynamite is as unstable as it is all in the name of a psychological adventure? How do you transport such volatile explosives to the island?

I don’t necessarily discount the countdown being part of a psychological experiment, but the powerful magnet appears to be real, and if anything, I think Hurley will be more apt to allow the countdown to go to zero BECAUSE of his disdain for the numbers… I have a feeling in an episode or two it’ll be his turn on the watch.

Anyone pick up on this website that ties into Lost?

The Hanso Foundation

They said in that video that there were 7 projects on various parts of the island with some sort of trouble at one of them.

I have no idea what that 6th one is. Anyone wanna google that? But the 7th one is what Walt is capable of doing. He used the Remote Viewing to allow himself to be seen in the woods a couple weeks ago, despite being in another location.

The cryogenics stuff makes me think that “The Others” are almost some sort of Frankenstein experiment gone wrong.

You can’t access any of the projects which I’m sure was planned but these projects do shed some light on what’s going on there.

I’m just getting up to speed on this thread, but I have to say I agree with most of you. For me, Lost is the first thing on TV I have had to watch since Band of Brothers. Of course, that was an HBO made 10 part mini-series. I can’t remember the last time I “had” to watch something on traditional network television…

Again, while I think Lost is top 5 on TV, it’s slowly losing me.
It’s a 42 minute show. They spend 3 minutes giving us the previouslies, 5 minutes showing me what happened last week from Kate’s perspective, then Jack’s, then Locke’s. Whose perspective will the Jack/Desmond showdown be next week? Vincent’s?
Then they show us the same clip of Jin running down the beach from last week, the preview clip of Sawyer getting bitchslapped (despite the fact that he’s packing).
We then cut to the flashback portion which gives us nothing new except that Locke got freaky with Peg Bundy and has daddy issues. Whoops, we already knew that last part.
I loved the interaction with characters on the island. I liked the Desmond/Jack stuff. I didn’t like the “faith or the island will explode/kill us all” angle but I’m sure that they’ll explain all that  .
My problem with lost is that they’re not doing anything. The last three episode could have been one episode. Everything about the rafters except chickbabe turning on them was shown last week or in the previews.
(OT: Nice freaking work Sawyer. You had a gun and let that dude walk you down and put you in a hole. This is the same gun you dove into the water to save. (Nice cotinuity Lost writers) Then you got de-gunned by a chick)
The countdown clock was added last week. This plot, while genius, is moving to slow. What is happening with Charlie and the baby and Sun? Give me more. I don’t care about their motivation, I just want to know more.
I was a history major and had to write a 25 page paper. I tapped myself out at about 22 pages. I had nothing left to say. To make my paper longer I’d 2.1 spaced my lines and brought my margins in a little. I made my letter size 12.3. My paper was turned in at 27 pages (it got and A), but I knew that I had stretched. I wonder if the Lost writers feel the same.
I’m getting to the point that I’m looking forward to seeing the show and am dissapointed when it’s over, because it gave me nothing.

Sorry for the vent, but the Bud Lights are working tonight.

Tintin

even though I don’t agree with it all… nice post TinTin.

And yet 23.1 million people were glued to their TV last Wednesday at 9:00pm and those numbers continue to rise.

Maybe you should try just kicking back and watching the show on a surface level instead of creating frustrastions for yourself by expecting so much. You’re never gonna enjoy it if you’re constantly disecting it from a writing/producing point of view. It’s a fictitious, fantasy-based show that’s on for once a week and not a 27 page thesis.

Again, this show is still in diapers. It would never see season 3 if it cleared up all the things you’re demanding of it. Just my opinion, but I don’t think you’ll truly enjoy the show as much as most people do if the whole time that you’re watching, you’re analyzing every flaw or plot hole. I wouldn’t change a thing about the show and based on the ratings/reviews, not sure the writers are going to either.

I’d like to see this show run at least 5 seasons but in order to do so, they are going to have to maintain a good bit of ambiguity. They do a great job of filling in holes, a little bit at a time so that you’re partially satisfied but still left wondering. Brilliant if you ask me.

Tintin,

Have you ever read Robert Jordan? :stuck_out_tongue: :frowning:

I disagree, when he got shot, he feel into the water, at least that's what I recall, unless you are referring to something else.

Patience is a virtue, relax. They have answered questions but apparently they are not the answers that you want. You remind me of someone who buys a video game and then seeks out the cheat codes to finish it, rather than trying to figure it out for themself, or skipping the first two Lord of the Rings movies only to watch the last hour of the final installment.

As others have said, if they answer everything right away then you don’t have a show.

Gun never fell in the water as far as I can recall. He dove in the water for the ammunition when he and Michael got into it.

See TinTin…you’re missing out on things by worrying so much about the unanswered questions you have. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks, it was a stressful week.

BUMP just because it’s back on tonight.

OK I am not sure of how many on here have noticed or heard of the newer theories being discussed so I will share. The idea is that Episode 1 of season 2 opened with a guy exercising and injected some serum into himself… he also made a health chake with fresh (FRESH?) fruit. The hatch looks very clean and tidy, yet when Jack and Kate and Locke are in the hatch it is VERY dirty and disorganized. The idea is that who we all thought was Desmond was actually someone else and that it was much much earlier… perhaps while the experiments were being conducted? The second thing is that the bearded man on the raft that took Walt may actually be the “other” guy that was in the hatch with Desmond. Just rumor and theory, but I thought it was interesting.

First to JCL

I’m not saying that I’m not an interested viewer and that I won’t be watching (albeit on Thursday evening as Veronica Mars is simply a better show right now). I think Lost is easily one of top 5 shows on TV right now.
As for “watching the show on a surface level”, you do that with West Wing. Lost is all about looking beyond the surface. The problem I’m having with the show is that the surface lever, particularly the flashbacks have gotten boring. I’d much rather see the characters interacting on the island. I already knew Locke had Daddy issues, Mike had trouble giving up Walt and Jack is an intense doctor. I don’t need to know why they do things, I just want them to do things, anything.
I guess what I’m saying is that I’d rather have 3 season of the first eight or so episodes than 5 years of what I feel is filler.

To CPA:
I could have done with a couple of less hours of “We’re almost to the mountain, Mr Frodo”

As for Sawyer, he sees Jin running down the beach with his hands tied behind his hands. He sees scary guys coming after Jin. Why is he not pulling out the gun now? Good thing he had the brains to use the gun when the polar bear was after him.

Again, I do like the show, I’d just like to see more of it and less Hurly drinking 10 year old milk hallucinating (can you hallucinate a voice?) that Jin speaks english.

Tintin

Fair enough Tintin…

I wasn’t very impressed with last night’s episode. Guess they can’t all be great but it was pretty bland (and silly at times) last night. They need to pick up the intensity level a bit. It’s getting a bit too dramatic instead of suspenseful.

I think that you just had other “things” on your mind while watching last night… HUBBA HUBBA

Hey, Lost had my undivided attention thank you very much! Besides, that show has a lot of commercials.
