Mayfield's role

Major was so uncaring about Mayfield’s habits that he suspended him to start the season and forced him to earn his starting spot back.

Gosh, I wish he had sent Mayfield a signal about team coming first!!!

If someone told me that I could go to college for free including room and board, nail all the hotties I wanted because I was a basketball star, and all I had to do in return was make average grades, play ball, and not smoke dope I would say “Sign me up!”. It just seems like a no-brainer to me.

Since Mayfield has graduated he is eligible to go somewhere else and play immediately next year. I am sure that lots of coaches would love to have him, but how many Athletic Directors will sign off on it? He will probably find one, but many just do not need the headaches from a guy that clearly believes the rules do not apply to him. He had certainly positioned himself well to earn a good living playing ball overseas, but now next year he could be invisible.

Does Major take any responsibility for bringing Mayfield here to start with?

WRONG again Sherlock. Professional or Collegiate athletes don’t make a habit of sharing private info with anyone that is even remotely connected to someone who could share such info on a public message board. Now thats really not rocket science.
Then how did you know? lol :-\

Are you kidding me? These kids b**** about s*** on twitter and Facebook. Are you a real person?
Exactly my point, info comes from a variety of sources. I’m not connected to anyone in particular so QFT. Do real people post on NNN?
Exactly your point? I thought your point was that college players don’t share info with people on the Internet. To illustrate that, you point to the fact that they complain and run their mouth on the Internet.

Okay then.

Anyway next man up, we’ve got a deep bench and PB says “this is the best team we have had in the A-10” so Major will coach us into the upper half of the league. After all Bobby Lutz did it in 2009-10 (9-7) with a bunch ah scrubs. UMASS will be the next victim.

I would say absolutely, but a couple of points on that.

 1. We don’t know what the suspension was for.

 2. If it was drugs, you can’t make a recruit pee in a cup. While I am not a fan of drugs myself, I do know some good people that smoke dope.

i’m ready to just get over this. he might have ability. potential. talent. even a future. he might have a lot of things. but he is either stupid/dependent…or he’s just REALLY stupid.

I’m certain major would accept the responsibility for offering mayfield a scholarship since, you know, he was the one to offer mayfield a scholarship

I;m just curious whether some FANS will hold him responsible for “his recruits” as Bobby was for his.

huh?

Comparing that A-10 to this A-10 is completely idiotic. Top to bottom, this conference is phenomenal this year. That’s why VCU only beats Rhode Island by 6 on the road, even though Rhody is 15th place. That’s why every road win is precious and valued. Just food for thought.

And, by the way, I don’t think anybody here thinks that 09-10 team was a team of scrubs. Or that Bobby was an awful coach. He was great for our program. But, I think most would agree that it was time for the move to be made.

Excellent question 919R. Glad to see someone besides myself who will hold a 50yr old man who gets paid $300,000.oo a year to manage a program responsible for managing a program.

and there we go…back to the well…I’m on no Lutz crutch, I honestly think it will be interesting if some on here hold Major to the same standards they ripped Bobby for…If you dont like that…tough.

That team had Derrio, Spears, Anjuan,Braz, KJ,Gohkan, Jones, … all players who have been characterized by the regular cronies on this board as having bad attitudes, lazy, to dumb to stay eligible, not good enough to start for this team ect. So surely Major will do as good or better than 9-7 in league play with the really good players that he recruited. ::slight_smile:

Just make stuff why don’t you. Outside of Spears no one of rational thought any of those guys didn’t play hard or had bad attitudes. Most understood they were in difficult situations.

As for Major being held responsible. Of course he is, it’s his program and one of his recruits. If it becomes a habit with his players then he should be ripped.

Or you could look at it like a coach / program that has rules and habitual offenders will be punished, no matter their importance.

Major is certainly accountable for the players he brings in but I don’t think this is a strike against him unless it becomes a recurring problem. That said, we still have quite a bit of basketball left to play this year. Lets hope this team comes together after the adversity of dealing with the GW debacle and losing Mayfield. Bras absolutely has to step up.
