I think Major will ultimately be judged by his recruits. All coaches are. If you think Major is sabotaging the program then you are dumb. A rookie head coach comes in to purposely destroy his 1st season. This guys career is on the line so I donāt understand why anyone would think that. These guys number 1 goal Iām sure is to make Charlotte the best basketball program in the country. That is how they move up and get pay raises. Not by ripping players apart and ruining programs.
Whatever Mayfield did to deserve getting suspended is something he has to deal with, and Iām sure it is something he will regret later in his life. EVic better pull his jock strap tight and be prepared to play some minutes.
What are the chances DeMario is around next season?
If he is gone, that would be a massive blow seeing as he would be our best offensive player.

I guess I do not get what some of you want Major to take responsibility for. Losing Mayfield is going to hurt the team and Major is measured by our win-loss record so he will take a hit there, but that is not what this is about. I think any responsible administrator is going to evaluate him on how he handled a player blatantly ignoring the rules, and I think he passed. He did what had to be done.
Mayfield is a grown man (22 in May) and responsible for his choices. He could not possibly have been confused about the expectations or consequences of getting caughtā¦again. I think all coaches battle immature, privileged players and while this hurts us a lot it will help to keep the next numb-skull from screwing up.
I agree with everything you said except this. Green and Briscoe couldnāt compete? We complained so much when we had them about their 30 whatever percent 3 point shooting. That would be a godsend to have on this team.
This could have been much, much worse for DeMario, he got real lucky in a way last year.

And I bet we are going to be his best option for college ball next year, so I hope he figures that out before it is too late if he wants to play another year. I suspect he may just head overseas and start getting paid. That would give us another open scholarship. I have we have someone in mind.

Luckily we are going to weaker CUSA next season

WRONG again Sherlock. Professional or Collegiate athletes donāt make a habit of sharing private info with anyone that is even remotely connected to someone who could share such info on a public message board. Now thats really not rocket science.
Wow. That means all of your info is first hand. Like inside the huddle stuff. In practice. Maybe you are even a player since you report about things in that definitely did or didnāt happen. Of course. How did we miss that. College athletes donāt speak with anyone about team issues and stay clear of social media as well.

Comparing that A-10 to this A-10 is completely idiotic. Top to bottom, this conference is phenomenal this year. Thatās why VCU only beats Rhode Island by 6 on the road, even though Rhody is 15th place. Thatās why every road win is precious and valued. Just food for thought.
And, by the way, I donāt think anybody here thinks that 09-10 team was a team of scrubs. Or that Bobby was an awful coach. He was great for our program. But, I think most would agree that it was time for the move to be made.
That team had Derrio, Spears, Anjuan,Braz, KJ,Gohkan, Jones, ⦠all players who have been characterized by the regular cronies on this board as having bad attitudes, lazy, to dumb to stay eligible, not good enough to start for this team ect. So surely Major will do as good or better than 9-7 in league play with the really good players that he recruited. ::)
Step by Step here:
Derrio- terrible, a āshooterā that couldnāt shoot
Spears- Frigginā headcase and whoever doesnāt think so, you are an idiot
Anjuan- not bad, just never got a lot better
Braswell- needs to step up, not playing to his potential. Blame who you will but itās on him. Time for him to put his balls back on now
KJ- bad knee, loved the kid but it happens
Gohkan- could and never will adjust to the āUSAā style of play
Jones- was coming around and having a nice Sr year but is too stupid to live. Flunked out in Sr yr, how the hell do you even do that?
Last but not least Lutz- loved him for a while, it was time for him to leave. After he didnāt get the UT gig he pouted and stopped recruiting for about 3 years and put this program in the toilet that we are just now coming out of. Missed the tourney his last 5 yrs I think, unacceptable- even he said so.
I will be very disappointed if he ever steps foot on the floor again for us. This is strike #3.
I agree.
It will be interesting to see how the team responds to this. Iām not sure how popular Demario was in the locker room, but the guys certainly seem to get along. It would be easy to be despondent and pout about the situation. I know that was my initial reaction. The situation does suck, thereās no 2 ways about it. But you can either let it bury you, or you can resolve to better than that.
I know one thing is for certain. We will not get any sympathy from our opponent Saturday or their fanbase. They too lost one of their leading scorers, who was also a veteran leader. Unlike us, it wasnāt by his personal actions / irresponsibility.
Also, I guess this means a lot more court time for Evic, and I am guessing Benny as well, though that remains to be seen.
As we do not know the issues, I will not post on the merits of Mayfield returning to play for us. However, If there is a Substance use problem and he increases his response to it (starts weekly therapy and weekly drug tests) in order to prove his commitment to treatment, I do not have a problem with his returning. I work in the mental health field and I continue to see people turn around lives that I never thought would. We will never know what may trigger him into changing his belief structure regarding the team rules, but I will continue to think all our players should be given chances as long as they showed increasing valid attempts to change. We have had starters in the past get suspended for drug use, weapon charges, and assault/fighting and usually, they are able to turn it around. This is college, everyone one of made mistaks in college, it is part of growing up. Unfortunately, star athletes take their hits publicly and due to their celebrity status, sometimes believe they are untouchable.
I approve of the maturity and wisdom of this post.
Iāll take the blame for a failed drug test & skip the rest of the season in the stands if Mayfield can come back. Iām willing to say it was my fault to save the season.
