Charlotte commitment Michael Beasley is putting on a clinic in Suwanee. The 6-foot-7, 210-pound small forward is dominating the game on both ends of the flavor and showing off not only his strong post moves put his turn-around and pull-up jumpers. On the glass it's no contest and in Thursday morning's effort he totaled 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Not to be pessimistic but I have always thought that Beasley’s commitment was window dressing.
I thought all along that he knew he would be going straight to the NBA so why not, as a favor to his pal Delonte, verbally commit to the Niners. It would help our future recruiting…and it wouldn’t matter to him because he was planning on going straight to the NBA anyway.
Why else verbal to a school like Charlotte 2 years early???
I hope I’m wrong…but that’s my gut feeling. We will see.

With the NBA age limit set in stone I think it becomes harder for us to land Beasley now that he is forced to attend college or go some other route as his year in waiting comes up.
Optimistically speaking...
We fit well in the 1 or 2 year plan for NBA talent guys. People expect more will choose the prep school (5th year) route so they can dominate on that level (not be exposed). We’re a big step up from prep school but not in a league flooded with top 50 guys. Beasley comes in, puts up huge numbers, wins the A-10, gets exposure in the NCAA tourney and moves on if he’s truly ready.
That is why I think him coming here is legit. At Louisville, he will not be the go-to guy or get the same minutes he will here. You need minutes to put up the numbers. If Dalonte’s here, I think he’ll be here unless something shady occurs, which is certainly possible.

The legend continues. On another board someone is reporting that a very famous talent scout said after the last couple of weeks, he may be the best recruit to EVER come out of the DC area.
The list of great players out of the DC area is too long to list.
As far as Mike Beasley goes most observers feel he will reopen his recruitment next spring. He apparently did not want to be hounded all the way through high school so he commited early to take the pressure off. Something like the Vaden kid for Indiana, he commited to Purdue as a soph., then reopened his recruitment as a senior and went to Indiana.
Sounds like one of those practical theories that have nothing of substance whatsoever to support it other than people struggling to understand why his committment was to Charlotte.

seriously. people are having a real tough time trying to grasp the idea that a top 5 recruit committed to little ol' charlotte
I think we have maybe a 10% chance of him honoring his early verbal commitment...and that's only because of Dalonte.
I’d give him a higher percentage than that, why even say us if we weren’t the leader? Wouldn’t you get more publicity if you verbaled to Syracuse instead?
I think Lefty’s post sums up your question, KTown. He’d almost be guranteed to be a starter and THE MAN on the team. A chance to pad your stats a little and look good for the NBA.
The thing I don’t like is that apparently going a National Championship team(or at least major national power) and being a good bench player is enough to get you picked #2 overall these days. If the NBA rumors are there in high school, all he has to do is show up to any college and if he starts on an average to good team he needs to dominate. If he goes to a national title contender he just needs to be decent and prove he can play at that level. Basically score 20 at Charlotte or score 10 at UNC is about the same.
I have no clue at all whether or not he will play here, I hope he does but I can see it going either way. I personally am a lot more interested in out 2006 recuits.

In my opinion, he verballed to us because he was going straight to the NBA anyway...so what did he care. My feelings are that his verbal to us was a favor to Dalonte so we could leverage it for more recruits.
Now that the NBA passed the age limit…we will see how firm his commitment is. Because now, he HAS to go to college. Now he has to determine which college actually is the best fit for him. He didn’t have to worry about that before.
We will see.
Again…I hope I’m wrong (I was wrong once in '84…so it can happen).
Coaches from all over are sitting in the stands keeping an eye on Smith, including Cardinal coach Rick Pitino, whom Nolan said watched with a big smile on his face as he torched the nets for 33 points in the All-Star game at the adidas Camp last week. The Cardinals are still way ahead for Smith's services, and according to the player, he is already working to recruit other players to possibly join him at Louisville. Smith's roommate, 6-foot-9 forward Michael Beasley, is one of the top players in the class of 2007. He already gave his commitment to Charlotte.
“He’s trying to get me to go with him, and I’m trying to pull him to Louisville,” Smith admitted with a laugh.
• On the flip side, Charlotte coach Bobby Lutz is smiling ear to ear after he got a verbal commitment from Michael Beasley, a 6-7 rising junior who plays for Oak Hill. A scoring power forward, Beasley is a consensus top-five player in his class who could have gone literally anywhere he wanted. But Lutz had an in because his assistant, Dalonte Hill, used to be a coach with D.C. Assault, the AAU club for which Beasley currently competes
