The top player in the class of 2007 to commit was Oak Hill Academy (Va.) power forward Mike Beasley, rated No. 2 by Scout.com. Beasley verbally committed to Charlotte, but 49ers coach Bobby Lutz can't comment on him specifically. What Lutz can say, like Odom, is that the early commitments are getting a little excessive.
“It is happening more and more every year,” Lutz said. “We’re always trying to get the guy that we have to be patient with, the one that we might have to gamble at times.”
Beasley isn’t that type of player. He’s clearly a “special” circumstance for Charlotte, a player that is rated in the top 10. Traditionally, the 49ers look for the hidden gems that usually don’t commit as early as late June.
No, I dont know the date. I just saw a thread with rumor of the game on TBR. Hopefully someone will follow up later.
If this were to happen, we need to plan on treating this guy like a real blue chip. It would be great to have the pep band playing our fight song when he gets off the bus and the Gold Dusters performing at halftime. This should be a requirement all the lower level seating folks.
“A set of Washington D.C. area recruits are dominating the Adidas Super 64 tournament in Las Vegas this weekend, including a pair of Louisville prospects in the 2007 class, Nolan Smith and Michael Beasley.”
If he has commited to Charlotte how can he be a prospect???Hmmm…

Sounds like a recruiting violation probably, to have pep band and goldusters, but everything else would be good.
Interesting comments from HoopScoop on Beasley’s committment and it being solid…
“We also speculated on whether 6’7 Jr Michael Beasley from Mouth of Wilson (Oak Hill) VA might re-open his recruitment several days ago, but now we’re being told that you can etch Beasley’s commitment in stone for the University of Charlotte. We’ve already alluded to the fact that Beasley is extremely close to 49ers assistant coach Dalonte Hill, but he also really likes the city and the school. So it appears that all of the people who think that this commitment won’t hold up, because they don’t think Charlotte is in a big enough conference or at a high profile enough school, are guessing wrong. As a matter of fact, our source mentioned the fact that Lamar Odom first went to UNLV and later went to Rhode Island, where he helped lead the Rams deep into the NCAA Tournament, as a precedent.”
Michael Beasley is one of the toughest players to defend in the nation.
Charlotte commitment reclassifies; debuts at No. 3
Maryland small forward Michael Beasley did things a little differently when he re-classified up a grade. Beasley, 6-foot-8, 225-pounds, and previously a member of the 2008 class, bucked the recent trend of players spending another year in high school or prep school. He debuts at No. 3 as a member of the 2007 class.
Beasley couldn’t help but impress with the D.C. Assault this year. With NBA size, he has a strong low-post repertoire. Coupled with his athleticism, it makes him extremely hard to defend in the post. In addition, he has the ability to consistently hit his mid-range face up jumper and is improving his stroke from outside the arc. Add his ability to attack the basket off the dribble, and he’s closing in on being the complete package.
No. 3 in the recruiting class all i have to say is great job recruiting and thank god for connections
I asked Langston Wertz to try and confirm if Beasley is going to be here (along with Nolan Smith) for a game at Central Cabarrus (Wake-bound Ish Smith). Said he’d check back next week because he lost Steve Smith’s number.
