Mike Hill out as Charlotte AD effective immediately

Oh he will start the ā€œfire the new AD pageā€ very soon.
I guess if you call to fire everyone, you might get one right.

I wish the guy that ran the Panthers and Charlotte Sports Authority was not so old. I think it was Morrison or something like that. I think he finally retired

Danny Morrison. He is who I wanted us to hire when we hired Mike Hill.

He is likely too old now. Believe he is stepping down from the CSF.

Yep:

Now is the time to send what you want in a candidate. How it should be handled, etc.

According to many the other finalist wanted to restructure the entire department last time.

Probably overdue. And for the right guy, definitely should be considered.

That is one of the things Mike did do right. Our logo makes so much sense now that it seems silly that we didn’t change to it decades ago.

Though I would not be opposed to bringing back the best version of Norm as an official alternate logo.

Everything about this decision–from the timing of it, to the rationale, to the interim replacement–makes absolutely zero sense.

  • Extended 13 months ago, and there is nothing outwardly apparent that would show any negative change in direction since then. If anything, non-revenue sports are crushing the fall seasons, stadium expansion is moving forward, etc.
  • Timing of firing him on a random Thursday during homecoming week, again, 13 months after giving him a 4 year extension?
  • Rationale of needing a new strategic direction/foundation…saying that ā€œhiring Albin has set football up for future successā€ is saying that the 1-5 start didn’t really factor into the decision. So what, in fact, is relevant to this decision to fire him right now and not at the end of the school year?
  • Why appoint the General Counsel of the school to serve as interim? No one actually in the AD is capable of doing that role? If so, that is concerning on multiple fronts. Moreover, it is a terrible look and objectively seems like something nefarious has happened if you appoint a lawyer/vice chancellor of institutional integrity to take over. Even if it turns out that this was just a performance issue, did you need to highlight that the guy you’re putting in charge literally oversees all of the school’s ethical considerations? Seemingly an own goal that will only add fuel to the speculation fire.

I have become so numb to how astonishingly incompetent we are at the sports that matter (happy 20th anniversary of the last NCAA tournament, everyone! 2 years before I started as a freshman at Charlotte…still waiting for that elusive opportunity to watch us get decapitated by SE Buttpoop State during the First Four in Dayton). Hill was seemingly fine as an administrator but obviously not a great talent scout for coaches. I’d listen to arguments we should have moved on and not given him the chance to hire another FB coach. But we didn’t…we extended him and let him make the hire, and then turned around and fired him for it? The timing of this is insane and makes Gaber/BOT look incompetent.

Saw Danny Morrison yesterday. He would be an excellent choice, but yes believe he is retiring from any full time gigs. He’s spending a lot of time down at Sullivans Island these days.

Agree with everything you said, but with the caveat that usually when something makes this little sense there is some factor I don’t know about.

As I said above, I think the likely cause is that there were finally enough ā€œvotesā€ from our whales to have him removed. Probably a work in progress for some time but if so, the timing sucks.

The alternative is something nefarious as you said, which I’m also concerned about. I really hope it isn’t a scandal.

The firing doesn’t make any sense to me either. Every sport is actually doing really well except for MBB and Football. WBB went to the NCAA just a handful of years ago, mens tennis, golf, T&F, men’s soccer, baseball, and softball are all conference contenders each year.

The only thing going on right now is a blundering football team (which has always happened) and the Volleyball team absolutely crushing it.

If it’s not a scandal…the timing makes no sense…which I get is probably on point for us.

No, I do not want a scandal for the record.

Worse, if it is a scandal, we are trying to bury it by not firing him for cause and paying him the full freight and trying to just say it is a change of strategic direction. Perhaps something was a close call and they were worried about a wrongful termination lawsuit so they decided to just suck it up and pay. But that is going to look 100 times worse if and when the other shoe drops (and it always does).

For the record, rank speculation on my part and also hope there is not a scandal brewing.

Damnit that makes too much sense. Ugh.

FWIW, Morrison will turn 72 on the 26th.

You go your way, we go our way, nobody start any trouble that will be bad for everyone involved.

Ohhh—–so, maybe Biff isn’t the ONLY one that our ā€œbig moneyā€ backers didn’t like……imagine that.

Big money likes you until they don’t. The changing of the pregame dinner pissed of a few of them I know. Maybe that was last straw.

It was donors that ultimately forced the issue with Judy.

I do agree though if there is no scandal this timing is ridiculous. Do this on Monday or a Tuesday next week and people have less questions. I mean he was out shaking hands last night at a homecoming alumni function with Tim.
