Where is Utter when we need him?
Utter tweet:

Hearing Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins turned Charlotte 49ers offer down on Sunday. Trying for some confirmation from Orange.

Strike One…
I hope this doesn’t turn out like our recruiting…
I wish Utter would “hear” things before they were posted on NNN. It would make this whole process easier to follow.
Goodman again tweeted, and blogged, that Hopkins withdrew from our search…big difference from that and Utter’s claim that Hopkins turned down an offer.
One of two things happened -
Cuse upped his salary (which is what I called earlier), and perhaps got a greater commitment about the future by leveraging our HC job.
We offered another coach and he’s “withdrawing”.
In either case if Kelsey is the clear choice we should have an announcement tomorrow or Wednesday.
I don’t know that there is a big difference. A lot of times a candidate will say they withdrew their name to save face for the school if they turn a job down.

genius.

Or he may have been negotiating for a better deal from Syracuse and got some assurances if he sticks around (without an offer necessarily having been extended yet). You never really know with these things because all sides are going to try to spin it to their advantage in public.

Prior to the Goodman/Utter tweets, there were ‘insider’ posts on the Syracuse boards that said that Hopkins seemed to really like the Charlotte job but the Orange panicked a bit and really sweetened his deal at Syracuse.
I’d abandon my head coach dreams, too, if the price was right. Take it for what it’s worth.
“Withdrew” is an ambiguous statement which can mean many things, including “turned down.” “Turned down” is straightforward. We may not know the true story behind it, but I beleive if Goodman knew for sure that we offered the job to Hopkins, he wouldn’t have used the term “withdrew.”
As I stated last week. The Longer this goes the worse it will get.
I caught some Flack for saying this last week because Phil was out of the country.
Now what is the reason??
We need to sign sombody and get going. If the 1st and 2nd fell through, move to the 3rd choice and sign him up. I have a bad feeling that if this goes past Wednesday it is going to get ugly.
I wish we could sign someone today and it would be mentioned during tonights game.
And Tom Penders “resigned” at Houston this year.
Either way he said thanks but no thanks.
I think you will see a lot of hirings tomorrow.
I actually think you’ll see most on Wednesday. Tuesday the news outlets will be all about the National Championship highlights and if Butler wins, what a great story that is. By Wednesday it will have died down a bit and schools will have a better opportunity to make the headlines with their hires.

We were waiting to interview people at the Final Four. That was a day and a half ago now (and the full day was Easter).
Give it a bit.

Sounds like he does. Or maybe a pat on the back.
