sck, he didn’t say Watkins was a bad hire, he said the way in which he was hired was awful. It was a public embarrassment. One of the “old-timers” on here can probably give better details than I could, but yeah it was a disgrace.

Agreed. The more I read about Hopkins, the more I want us to land him.
Well I do remember that it was a pain in the ass to get Watkins hired.
I’ll be the devil’s advocate. I still prefer Kelsey over Hopkins! He could be the next Krzyzewski in the making for all we know? He has proven himself with several coaches, knows recruiting in our area, knows our program and conference. All I know about Hopkins is that he has served a great coach well for 15 years and that coach thinks highly of him yet he has not had the confidence to go out on his own as head coach. Why? How many of Bobby Knight’s and Mike Krzyzewski’s assistants have gone on to excellence? Serving under a great coach does not in itself guarantee you will be a great head coach.
I just want us to hire someone and soon!! We can’t afford to waste time. Get the best man hired!
I have a feeling that we aren’t gonna offer enough money to get Hopkins or Kelsey. I hope I’m wrong about that, but that’s what my gut is saying.
I agree…does the name Bill Guthridge evoke any memories? There’s a long list of assistants from famous coaches that never made it big. I’m not saying Hopkins is bad, just saying that shouldn’t be the main reason we hire someone. It also doesn’t mean that Kelsey is the man either just because he’s young. It’s a tough call but it appears that either one is a good qualified candidate.
Bill Guthridge went to a final four as a head coach. I would settle for that.

If Hopkins is out, one of two things happened. He might have had flashbacks to the game where Charlotte beat the Cuse
a few years ago at their place. Or maybe he met face-to-face with Dubois. That would be a deal killer all by itself. This process is taking way too
long for me.

Pulling his name from consideration is better (image wise) than declining an offer.
