Sir, I applaud your demeanor and grace in conceding. However, if you are true to your words and to a united program, I believe it best to remove your avatar and signature propaganda. Perhaps it is time for a Mike Hopkins dance gif?
Jeff Goodman, at the final four tweets:
Hearing that Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins is in mix pretty good for Charlotte along with Joe Dooley - per sources.

Note his previous post was that he was hanging out at the assistant coaches get together
If Kelsey, Dooley, and Hopkins are our short-list, anyone that said we couldn’t get anyone better than Lutz needs to publicly apologize.
I don’t know for certain that any of these guys are better than Lutz. How could we? What is their record as a head coach vs. Lutz’s record? Hopefully the guy we get is awesome though.
Impressive guy, for sure.

They’re certainly all very good candidates that, judging on the posts, most people here would be very happy with. Certain Lutz defenders acted like we’d be in the same situation as UNCW and have to beg scrubs to come here.
Kelsey is still my favorite, Hopkins is growing on me, and Dooley… well I wouldn’t be happy or upset with Dooley.
I think Hopkins would be considered the bigger get, but I could live with Kelsey as well. I feel the same as you about Dooley.

The current head coach shows no plans to step down anytime soon. Do you risk being a 20 year asst coach with No HC experience, bank on taking over Cuse and living the good life? BUT what if you fail at Cuse? You are a 20 yr asst coach with 3 yrs failed HC expernece at BCS school and suddenly join the ranks of the ‘retreads.’
If you honestly believe there are no guarantees in life, you take a good HC job and wait. Believe me, if SU loves him so much, they will know how to get in contact with him in Charlotte.
There are MANY Syracuse fans that want Hopkins to be the head coach there right now. He isnt “banking” on being the next head coach he will be the next head coach @ syracuse.
I wouldn’t say MANY. Boeheim will coach at Syracuse as long as he wants to, as long as they don’t fall off the map and just stop making the tournament each year.
lol ok well i am from Syracuse and grew up a Syracuse fan (still am) and i can tell you that there are a significant amount of ppl that want boeheim out. One championship in 34 years of coaching the team and melo was the reason they even won that title…with the type of talent that has gone through the program there’s no excuse for one nat’l championship in 34 years. People are ready for change just go to a Syracuse board and you will see that…
It sounds like Utter got it right when he said it was between Hopkins and Kelsey. Good call Utter.
Goodman’s blog on Foxsports.com has a bit more info, but basically the same. He adds Ohio State’s Alan Major as a candidate, doesn’t mention the FSU guy. Also mentions Lutz is in the mix at Marshall.
It should be pointed out that on his blog Goodman qualifies the Hopkins note with “if he wants the job.”
People in all fanbases are retards. Winning titles is not a cake walk. Boehiem does get talented players, but so does every other elite program in the country. I still think he had the best chance at a title out of any team this year before their big man went down.
The landscape in college basketball right now is wacky too. Teams are winning titles and then struggling to make the NIT (Florida and Ohio State both played in the NIT the year after they were in the title game, Chapel Hill this year). UCLA went to four straight F4s then dropped off the face of the basketball planet. There is a coin flip’s chance that the title game is two programs that have never won a title and only have one F4 between the two of them.
Boehiem just won national coach of the year, he’s not getting fired and Syracuse doesn’t need change.
I think Hopkins would make a phenomenal coach, but I’m not a huge fan of hiring him. It just doesn’t seem like a smart decision to hire a guy that you know will bolt without thought if the SU job opens up. I wouldn’t be too concerned if Boeheim were in his 50’s or even early 60’s, but the man is olddddddddd.
I know Kelsey would bolt in a heart beat as well if the X position ever opened up, I just find that job opening up soon to be less likely with Xavier having a Xavier player and assistant now as their head coach. Xavier can afford to match the pay most schools in the nation offer their coaches, so I see Mack coaching there for quite some time.

Boeheim is 65, and he has a young wife and young children. He isn’t going anywhere for a while.

Just talked to Jim Boeheim about Hopkins. ``He’s going to be the next coach at Syracuse. That’s what I think."

that says less about the likelihood of hopkins coming to charlotte than you’d think, unless boeheim was cut off from saying “i’m retiring right now”

It says very little about him coming here. Boeheim could coach 10 more years and Hopkins could accumulate the 2nd longest tenure in 49er history…

Didn’t Mullins coach 11 seasons?
This is our guy, I gotta believe. Would make a major impact. He’s one of the most respected around. Just look at his guys at Syracuse. Carmelo and others would be on board.
