As far as the old school carolina style burgers go, I have to agree. Every time I go to Monroe during the day for work, I make a stop by dukes. Same guy is always on the grill. I’ve been going there since I was 16 and I’ve never seen anyone else cooking burgers. Wonder how many hundreds of thousands of burgers he has made in his time there?
I’d rank them dukes, brooks, hinsons. Honorable mention to Ron’s in Monroe as well. Feels like you’ll get salmonella by the looks of the place inside but the burgers are underrated.
The diamond has always been good as well, but that place seems to have fallen apart after Covid.

I do something similar but not sure if its actually a BBQ specific sauce. ‘Tiger Sauce’… goes on everything.

Yeah, the “stocky” guy is the owner at Dukes (or a member of the family that owns it now). Interesting tidbit, “Duke” was the brother of “Jud” (Jud’s in Monroe if you’re familiar)…and I can’t remember which, but one of those 2 was killed many years ago in a robbery.
Edit: I looked it up, “Jud” was killed in 1975.

Love ‘Smithfield’s chicken and Barbecue’. Their Red sauce is delicious
on the Cue or Chicken.

Since you like Speedy’s, they are moving to a new location off Bus. 85. Noticed the sign was up today. Had to move because of the Old US Hwy. 52 widening. New location is near the local Dodge dealership. Talk about humongous portions, Speedy’s is it!

Pretty sure El Presidente would give it a 7.5. It’s solid but not elite. Also don’t burn your face off.
