clt says the roval rocks!
I was there too. We booed the heck out of Earnhardt. “Didn’t mean to wreck him, just meant to rattle his cage a bit”. I doubt it. Earnhardt was too good a driver to not mean to do what he did. Wasn’t a fan of his but he sure was fun.
The 24 car has close ties to Charlotte now. Rudy Fugle graduated from Charlotte and Willie B’s Dad graduated from Charlotte as well. William Byron is probably as nice a person as you would ever want to meet. I’m hoping he wins it all.
Earnhardt was the best driver ever. You damn right he meant to wreck him. Some damn good drivers out drove him, like in the CLT GIF
I think that was Geoff Bodine in the 7. Looked like North Wilkesboro. Bodine was the last person to lap the field in a race and he did it at North Wilkesboro.
Saw Brett Bodine get pulled on LKN on a jet ski doing over 100 mph in 1994. Lol. Crazy. Geoffs race team had suped it up and it was flying. Police impounded it on site.
I have gone 70 on mine but 100 is nuts. I don’t know what the speed limit is for a jetski on Norman? Some of those big boats can haul ass.
clt says 100 MPH had to create lots of wake
Had a couple of US Air mechanics who knew about it and out there with them say they had him at 107 but that just seems crazy to me. Somehow game warden found out and alerted police who got him at the marina. That NASCAR money on the lake is interesting and also a pain in the ass lots of times.
LKN is a shallow lake and some of those cigarette boats can not even hit top speed on the main channel befire having to throttle it back down. My brother had a ski Nautique and we hated those guys. Beat you to death on the weekends.
Oh those guys aren’t the problem, it’s those wake boats going everywhere, but usually towing nobody . If a jest ski is doing 100mph, there probably is no wake; as it skips.
I was told years ago that Rick Hendrick had his team put 3 used race car engines into his cigarette boat would have the most HP on Norman. Then Penske put 3 brand new race car engines in his boat. When Rick found out, he had three brand new higher hp prototype engines put into the first boat.
This I was told when a Yankee friend asked what the horsepower limit was when my mentor was taking us to lunch on his pontoon boat. We thought he was asking about the HP limit for the pontoon boat, but ney ney.
He was asking about the horse power limit in lake Norman! He said they had 70hp limits up north. We laughed. “This is North Carolina son. We don’t put horsepower limits on anything.”
Half the boats on LKN need to be on the ocean not a shallow man made lake but little dick energy is strong on the lake.
I have fallen skiing at over 45 + and the water feels like concrete and you can not even close your eyes fast enough so you are blinded with your eyelids peeled back. Thats why I never bare footed like some of my friends. I can not imagine having a problem on a jet ski at those speeds. It would be a bad deal all around.
First off, I kind of agree, but Lake Norman isn’t what I would call a shallow lake or a small lake.
This…not shallow
clt googled and lkn is 110 ft deep at lowest point
The main channel is fine but not really deep. There are places where it goes from 30’ to 6’ real quick. There are places near the sand bar in Cornelius that have eaten a lot of props. Thats what kills me about some of the 4 million plus homes down Jetton. Unless there is a slope / basement home you can walk out 50 yards and still be shoulder deep down the shallow side. The last drought in 2008 exposed a lot of bad water where someone spent a couple million and you could walk out 100 yards and the boat was on a lift for a year and a half and no one told them their entrance to their pier was dredged out and would need to be done again and again.
I guess it is all opinion and relative but I grew up on LKN and went to Smith Mountain Lake / Philpot a lot and the difference is a lot. Duke is famous for overseeing shallow lakes. If you have been in / on Belews Creek in summer I have taken baths that were cooler because so shallow.
I would call Mountain Island a small and shallow lake. I have been boating there for well over 20 years, and I still get nervous getting around the bar. Last time I was out there, I just missed a tree that had stuck into the shallow muck, just barely visible. It wouldn’t have been the first I hit out there like that. Would have probably destroyed my lower unit
I would call Lake Hickory a deep small lake.
Just for the record IMO LKN is a shallow lake but it is definitely not small. Dont know how small got thrown in there.
Back on topic. Nascar today is lacking and Miss Winston lived on the floor below me in Scott dorm and my 5’6" 250 lb roommate got a date with her to see Billy Joel. She was really nice and obviously really liked Billy Joel!!! Props to my roommate who was not afraid when everyone else was.
Comgrats to 49er Rudy Fugle, and son of a 49er, William Byron on making it his 6th win of the season. He is guaranteed a spot in the final round. And is one step closer to the championship.
One more round before the final round. He did advance to the next round.
