New MBB Head Coach search

Why the nit?

I’m certain that White wants us back in the NCAAT, pronto. That has to be his edict to whomever we hire.

I am hoping he will announce something today. Don’t base that on anything other than the desire for the suspense to be over

Because I was born in 2001 and in my entire life we haven’t made it to the NCAAT since I was 3 years old. Since then, I’ve moved to NC, lived my whole life, and got two degree from this school, and so much more. If my expectation was the NCAAT, I’ll already have teenagers by the time that happens.

Meanwhile we haven’t been to the NIT since 2013, when I was 11. The only tournament I’ve ever seen this school compete well in was the CBI a handful of years ago. That CBI finish makes me particularly happy despite the disdain it seems to have on this forum. I still think some sort of banner or recognition of that team deserves to be somewhere on display.

If my expectations are the NIT, then I’ll be awfully happy if ever make it to the finals of that, and elated if we’re a 1st round exit in the NCAAT. Your memories of this team are of its fall from grace. Throughout my life, there was hardly a fall from grace, they have always been bad. Hardly anyone I know is convinced we’re a D1 school. Even classmates I had weren’t aware of that.

I’d like to see any notable achievements or small progress. For example, are your hopes for the football team to go bowling or to make it to the CFP?

21 years coaching and no NCAAs. Woof. Might as well have kept Fearne.

He’s competent but I agree, aim higher.

That would be a lazy hire if it happens.

That would be a classic ā€œmy boss likes this candidate so I’m gonna hire them moveā€ which would be a horrible start for White.

The last time a chancellor intervened in our basketball process, it didn’t work out so well. Not at all impressed with Toledoā€˜s coach since he has never been to the NCAA in his career. I hope White has enough courage to overrule the chancellor

Believe it or not, I’ve read on this message board that Chapel Hill was planting people in our AD in order for them to keep us down.

Mike Hill >> Kevin White >> Wes Miller

Go bowling, definitely. That’s not a lofty goal. Just bc we’ve run an inept football program thus far, making a bowl is not hard. That’s my minimum expectation. Minimum. It’s not hard just bc we’ve made it look that way.

I don’t buy the smoke of the toledo coach, nor do I think that’s who gaber wants

I posted that jokingly, but it is true that I have read that theory on this here message board.

I hate to break it to you but I don’t see us going to the NCAAT for another 20 years. If by some flute chance we land some phenomenal player that takes us to the NCAAT one year they will be gone shortly there after. I can’t even conjure an idea of how we could make the tournament three out of the four years like we did when I was in college.

Why? Bring in a good coach, especially if the league is losing a lot of good coaches. With what we should be spending in nil, ncaat should be the goal. Other programs make it, lose players and reload. The losing players thing isn’t just an us issue

Agreed. This year was up for grabs. Sure, USF out spent us, but the conference was down and I think we had enough talent. With a different system and better lineup management than what we had this season, I think we have a chance against USF. We don’t win 10 out of 10, but maybe we get a few.

This year in conference alone tells me we can get back to the tourney. Not like we did, but it can happen and will with the right coach and staff.
