The article says that Highsmith was not amused and quickly got up. I know Alex has a great reputation and doesn’t want to mess that up. We are fortunate to have players that represent us well in the NFL.

Not an expert, but if he goes undrafted, wouldn’t he come back?
Never mind - saw in another thread that he is projected to go in the 2nd round.
You can only come back if you withdraw from the draft. If you go undrafted, you gambled and lost.

I would have only been disappointed if he transferred.
Going pro is the dream so more power to him.
The fact he pulled himself from the portal and now he’s declaring for the draft makes me think he’s gotten a promise for a decent draft position and signing bonus.

What kind of promise you talking about? Like the mlb draft?
They do this in the NBA all the time so I presume they do it in the NFL.
What happens is a team finds a player they want to get (usually someone with a lot of variability in their draft position and sometimes players “off the radar” that the team thinks they have scooped the league in evaluating) and they will promise their agent “we will draft you with our pick x in round y if you are still available”.
Then the player stops taking workouts with teams and sits till the draft.
That is usually when you know there is a promise that is acceptable to the player and his agent. They stop taking workouts for teams.
