It is the uptown extension of the University.
Oh. Ok. Thanks. That’s a nice looking building.
The paper drawings were wrinkled really bad when they built it, but it is still a nice building
Almost a dozen years since the Center City campus opened. Time flies!
Makes sense. Beautiful disaster.
clt says we will be playing at bofa!
Hopefully they are going to 30k seating. That’s the sweet spot for us I believe
Agreed.
I am also interested in what the plans will look like after this study. Any different features than the original mock ups listed?
A little surprised by these quotes:
- Construction is estimated to take around 18 months, per the program’s initial study.
- The team will find a way to play home games during construction, but it’s unclear where. Bank of America Stadium, which holds more than 74,000, has not been ruled out as a possible alternate venue, but no formal conversations have taken place.
And then the timeline:
The 49ers’ stadium expansion should take two-and-a-half to three years once funding is in place, Hill says
It’s not just the length, it’s moving us out of the stadium for construction that is throwing me. Arkansas State built a big new Press tower and still played in their stadium IIRC. Cincy did something similar too I think when they did major renovations of Nippert. I think if you started building immediately after the season you could get to a point where you could leave the stadium operable for Aug-Dec and then start another major round of the work after then season. Repeat as necessary. Again, I’m no engineer or construction guy, but that seems preferable and doable. In that way we probably would grow in stages over a couple of seasons. I saw Tennessee close in an end zone I think in one off season back in the late 90s. Heck even App kept playing in their dump when they built in one end zone.
I really don’t want to spend a whole season at BofA. Unless we are wildly successful on the field, I think that might kill any attendance momentum we might have going. It’s just too big. Even the ACC teams struggle to sell it out for big games. We’d be like Temple or USF… Yuck. And I hate the turf at the Bank. It’s gross. If it was still grass it’d be a little more palatable.
Remember funding in place doesn’t mean we have to have it all. It means we have to have enough to feel confident in issuing the bonds to cover fully funded construction.
I do agree with the keeping stadium operating during construction. Most schools figure out how to manage construction during season. If we HAVE to use boa it can work. Gives us a different level of profile in the city if we leverage it right. Still not the best tho.
Being a Niner is like living a Ringo Starr song. You know, it don’t come easy……
We’re more like the song Miserable by Lit.
“You make me come
You make me complete
You make me completely miserable”
OK, just basketball, but still.
I feel the same. I live in the triad and Wake Forest built a large press box at their football stadium several years ago and continued to play home games there. I get this is a little different but still hopefully we can play most games at Jerry Richardson Stadium. The two to three year time table definitely caught my eye
Playing home games in a mostly empty BOA stadium (we aren’t filling that place up) for a whole season would be a terrible atmosphere.
That is not labeled “per Hill” and it does NOT say we won’t play at home.
Whether we can play at the Rich during construction is all dependent on how the construction is paced and when certain areas can be made safe for gameday. It’s been done before.
Serious question, could we play a few games at Memorial Stadium? Like the FCS game and some of the less popular AAC games (ex. Temple, Tulsa, and USF)?
Probably, would depend on when events are scheduled.
Nodoby has even brought up the most important thing. What’s this gonna mean for tailgating???
I thought about this and went to look up the capacity at Memorial. Apparently the recent upgrades to that stadium dramatically reduced the capacity there, only ~10,000 seats now.
clt says it sounds like we are going bigly with the expansion, if we would lose games at the Rich.
Suites, loge boxes, more bojangles
clt says plan to tailgate at the hooters uptown!
