Phil Jones

****ING SON OF A …
Jones is ineligible this year per Jim Utter in the shout box.
Great…anymore good news?

I just saved a bundle on my car insurance?

Ridiculous… just ridiculous… I can’t believe it.

The Charlotte 49ers are the DEFINITIVE, enduring underdogs.

So this is what it’s like to be a masochist.

Next thing you know, our Hofstra win will be taken away due to some asshole in the NCAA

Does he get 4 years of eligability starting next year?

Welcome to life as a non-BCS school. It’s bullshit like this and that Winthrop-UNCCH game that is ruining my desire to even pay attention to college athletics. The big guys calll the shots and protect their own. If Phil would have been at a BCS school, they’d have tripped over themselves to clear him.

He’s now Rodney White part II, hopefully not to become Marcus Bennett part II.

I think the debate is in the shoutbox. But some say he does, but some say he loses a year…

So…I guess this is official? And what happens to his eligibility? I would rather know something now and move on then be up in the air for several more weeks. If it’s a fact, it’s unfortunate for us (as usual) but we need to gel as a team and solidify roles, etc.

Utter also said that there is an appeal process. I assume we will go through it, but I bet our chances of winning that are very slim… or maybe non-existant.

How many other players around the country that were at Philly Lutheran the same time as Jones have been cleared? What is the difference? Does it have to do with the classes they took? Grades? I’m not sure what the NCAA could be basing their decision on other than transcripts.

Remember the scene in Days of Thunder where Fred Thompson (was a senator from TN) tells Cole and Rowdy about how the Japanese treat a shipment of lettuce they’re not too sure about? NCAA=Japanese in this case. If there’s any question, they just punish the kid.

So can he redshirt this season?

At least he wouldn’t lose a year. This year would kinda go down the crapper, but could make the next couple of years positive.

It would be nice to have had him this year but we will be okay with Coleman / Williams.
Hope he can redshirt and have 4 years

During the year he sits out he may feel the pull of other schools looking for his services for next year. Hope he sticks with us.

He would have to be cleared no matter where he goes. Plus, wouldn’t he have to sit out next year in order to play somewhere else? Or does that not apply since he has not suited up and been part of the on court team for the Niners.

Hopefully he sees that center sport is exclusively his for the next how many ever years he can stay.

Has anyone talked to Big Phil about how he’s feeling about this mess? I truly feel sorry for the guy. And I bet it’s all over Lutheran Christian, which he left to go to a real school. It would be one thing if he transferred to Lutheran to get all of his core classes. But he left and went somewhere else to pursue a real education.
