Good lord. Here’s what I really feared with a Lutz firing - a horrifically bad hire.
Lebo?
Doherty?
Wat?
Buzz Peterson?
Bobby Cremins?
Are you folks serious?
Those are all awful ideas. Just dreadful. No retreads.
I AGREE WITH NA!!!
The last thing we need is a guy who has a “name” and can’t coach.
Recruits don’t follow names…they follow high energy. We need someonw who can sell…period. Someone from a successful program with a desire to build his own program who can recruit.
But the last thing we need is a “name” or a retread!!
I want a yankee with an attitude. Somebody with a Calipari-type personality (without the cheating) who will challenge the city of Charlotte to give the 49ers the respect that they deserve, as Calipari did in Amherst and especially Memphis.
This southern-nice-guy idea gave us a very lovable coach, and one that we will undoubtedly miss… but I don’t want to like our coach because of his personality. I want to like him because he gets positive results.
If we find a proven assistant, I have know problem with hiring them. They are more affordable, but they are a more of a crapshoot.
I would rather get a proven head coach and lock him down for around 7 years.
Billy Kennedy (Murray State) is my nominee. He’s turned around Centenary, Southeast Louisiana, and Murray State. He’s a good recruiter and a good defensive coach.
Kennedy’s basketball philosophy starts with a rock-solid foundation of tough, in-your-face defense
The only drawbacks I see are his age and possibly his lack of NE recruiting ties. That being said, he’s by no means old as far as college coaches go, and he’s recruited just fine wherever he’s been as a head coach or an assistant all over the country.
He is signed through 2012 at Murray State. Don’t know what his salary is, or the buyout price.
Last time we had one of those we ended up with Hal Wissel.
And had we had a football program to worry about at that time he might have been a “better” hire. The AD’s biggest job for the next 20 years is football. We currently have someone in that position whom I can honestly think may never have even been to or watched a football game in her life. That person is FAR from qualified to start such a program. Hell, Dubois has more experience running a college football program than Judy.
How about Tom Herrion? He is currently Associate Head Coach at Pitt. Was the head coach at Charleston from 2002-2006 (80-38).
Look at who Memphis got to follow Calimari…
He has the #1 recruiting class in the country coming in next year.
Much as I hate to say, Memphis may be a good model for us-> If you can get the #1 class in C-USA, should be able to in the A10. Good recruits make all coach’s look good.
Flame on me all you care, but her name is not gold in the circle of mens hoops/coaching. The industry knows how she handles mens coaches.
No alpha male will work under her for basketball IMHO. The planes, the schedules, the TV, the radio, the marketing, etc. So many things are romper room. A legit coach will laugh her out of the building on many specific items that we don’t do.
I think we end up with someone that is young and from a smaller school. I don’t see a BCS asst happy here. He will be frustrated quickly.
