My rational response would be to say not to punish those that stood. Maybe cut your donation by the 5/xxx and let the director know.
Oddly enough those members that kneeled still played their instruments for the anthem. Seemed very contradictory to their overall stance.
What I find ironic is that the military plays a very large role in protecting the band memberās right to expression. Probably would have been a good day to skip the kneeling, but that was their decision.

Donāt forget the students, the Observer, and that the temperature and wind combined to make it a little chilly for those sitting in the shade. Quite a few of our fans left early, and I think it was a combination of our shitty play and the weather (even though it was not really THAT cold).
Itās a good thing the stadium hasnāt been expanded. It would have looked completely empty this afternoon. In a major metropolitan area, with nearly 30,000 students, over 5,000 resident, and 100,000 alumni, an important home game, and the attendance was pathetic. I canāt understand that. We may not be able to maintain our eligibility for FBS with attendance like this.
Our attendance sucks because our AD sucks at marketing and our fans make excuses for not showing. Bad combo. If we had good marketing weād have more fans and wouldnāt have to rely on a small fan base to show up to literally every game. Not a single post mentioned we had a chance to go bowling this year except tweets by players. Pathetic that a D1 school athlete has to do their own marketing. Also, FSLs were a terrible idea.
Happy thought: Marshall beat MT bad. MT looks lost without Stockstill at QB. So no excuse not to beat them other than the same excuses, poor coaching, no heart, no fans
Negative thought: Idaho is bowl eligible. The team with a stadium smaller than ours, and little history/tradition, is 6-4⦠Why. Why. Why. Canāt we be 6-4 right now? I said preseason weād get win number 6 against Riceā¦we are literally two 1 point loses away from that being trueā¦so infuriating
Can I get a current student on here to answer my question?
I was a little late getting into the stadium walking from silver lot. There was a mass Exodus of students walking the FROM their tailgating area back to god knows where.
Why are they leaving? Where are they going? Why arenāt they taking an extra 40 steps towards the stadium? Why do they get so done up to tailgate then go home? Wtf?!
Yep. #1 they donāt care. #2 theyāre too lazy to stand up for a game and support their school. #3 half of them are so wasted they have to have their hand held back to the dorm. #4 girls go as a part of their sororities because itās practically required and they donāt give a shit about football so leave. #5 the guys that leave are pussies and are probably leaving to chase just that. #6 itās sad that the student body that is there every game standing up the whole time has to deal with this. It is sad and embarrassing, but itās probably never going to change.
This game was lost when Nate Davis left in the third quarter.
With him , Covington, and German gone we have an extremely sub par offensive line that could neither block the run or defend the pass. This keep our offense unable to make first down and on the field (along with the drops and Dukeās fumble).
THey wore out the defense that rose to the occasion all but once. And that was the drive to beat us.
I know that some of you are quick to destroy the coaching staff, but we simply do not have the depth to deal with some injuries. We ran out of quality OLās today⦠and without that o line, we became an FCS team.
We play eight yards off the ball because we would rather give up those yards than play 50/50 balls against our suspect defensive backs.
We canāt run Phillips every play when they know itās coming, so what else should we call?
Klugh wasnāt on today. Neither were the wide receivers.
Today was a perfect storm of things to go wrong in the second half.
We are not a strong enough football team to overcome it.
It was tough watching us give up a 21 point lead in person. I left the stadium pissed and made comments about that being why we canāt get fans in the seat. Iāve had some time to mellow out. Second half was atrocious. Changes need to be made to the coaching staff. Not saying that Lambert needs to go, but we need a change. I said I wasnāt going to buy tickets for the game against MTSU, but I do believe we have a chance of winning. This game needs to light a fire under some people!

clt says tintin nailed it. We are certainly able to compete with the majority of college football teams ( elite schools like bama, Washington, app excluded). But we lack the depth to sustain when injuries happen.
We have never lost a game because of coaching and that didnāt change yesterday. Our players have failed to make plays late in games all year. They also took Rice lightly after the 21 point lead.
This is why we lost:
Our offensive line was awful yesterday. I know itās because of lack of depth and injuries for the most part. Our receivers were awful too. Ford dropped a TD, Mullen muffed a punt, and Duke had the worst game of his career ( 3 drops and crucial fumble). The offense lost us this game because Klugh and Kalif had zero room to make any plays thanks to the O line. Also, I know Iām in the minority here but I will be happy to move on from Matt Johnson and Austin Duke after this year.
Defensively, we were average. When you give up 22 and score on a pick 6, you should win the game. However, The lack of pressure and missed sacks on the QB led to him running for 90 yards. Honestly I counted at least four missed sacks, 2 by Carrol, 1 by Harris, and 1 by Lucas. There were probably more too. All in all Iām not too mad at the D. They could have played better, but they were good enough to win.
I think we have a shot to beat MT, but if we do, I fully expect us to fall flat at UTSAā¦itās just the Niner way.
There was no buzz leading into this gameā¦unless you read this chat board. We have to do better.
Someone shared their experience with me of trying to buy tickets to this game on Friday. They showed me the screen on their cell phone after accessing charlotte49ers.com. There was no mention of the football game and only info on other events, possibly all of them womenās events. When selecting the option to see more stories, once again nothing about the football game was displayed. I suggested he call the ticket office. He said he had already called but no one answered.
I tried to convince him to walk up and buy a ticket at the game, but he was afraid no tickets would be available since no tickets were available online. Long story made short, due to his frustrations of trying to get a ticket, he did not go to his first 49er football game.
At times it seems our AD does not want to put people into the stadium. This game seemed to be one of those times.

As a fan and a supporter, Iām frustrated that our athletic dept seems not to care that the large city they operate in does, in fact, not care about Charlotte athletics. We need to expand the family to include a few aunts and uncles, ya know?
Our dbacks need to challenge the opposing receivers in my opinion, instead of conceding 8 yards every down, make them prove that they can burn us, then give them the cushion if it is needed, I believe our secondary talent is adequate, make the opposition prove they are notā¦if they can
They didnāt want to give up a big play was the reason I heard on the post game why we allowed them space off the line. I donāt think Rice has big time play makers so we allow death by 1000 cuts.
