So who do you guys hire at the end of the year?

While I don't think he's "fired", I don't think survivor is too far away. Bring in an old assistant, give him a year or two to get back into the local scene and name him head coach. Worked for the Suttons at OK State. A losing/horrible season may just speed up the matter.

Ya’ll do know that Dawkins is “Associate Head Coach” at Duke right? I don’t think K has been fired.

Survivor’s assesment is a good one but i think its more of just a fun and interesting conspiracy.

From everything I have heard, moxley is a great recruiter, how much recruiting would he be doing as a head coach?

Wow !, thanks for the stats, the knock-offs, doh, buzz, amaker, have 3 NCAA trips between them at 9 different schools.

But they have done really well with their NIT bids, is that what we are looking for ?
My .02 cents Butch Pierre or Orlando Early. This job needs a great recruiter more than anything and these 2 fit the bill nicely. They have also gone on to top 10 programs and know what it takes and how it should run. From a cost standpoint it is just cheaper to hire an established assistant.
Orlando is no longer an assistant. He is in his second year at Louisian Monroe. The Warhawks were 10-18 last season, 6-10 in the Southland Conference. They are 4-5 this year.

If you want a candidate who is proven, who has won at the college ranks, who has coached in the NBA ranks, who makes his teams win with lesser talent.

His name is Mike Montgomery and he is for hire. His resume is flawless in the college ranks. He’s an innovator who could well pull a Pitino/Calipari like turn around for us.

He is also a 49er.

A long beach state 49er

I don’t agree with a lot of things posted on this board. I hate the name University of Charlotte, I don’t think football will solve all of our problems, I actually like Judy Rose, but I have to admit I’ve been wrong in defending the administration. As a university, we are at a standstill and we’re not being aggressive enough. We are conceding to mediocrity. I just want to see us fire someone for not performing or go toe to toe with another university over a new program. I want to see some fight in our admistration. Fire Lutz, fire Judy, fire somebody so people will once again feel fired up about the university. I like Lutz personally, but fire the f$ck out of that dude. Judy says basketball is our number one priority. Okay, prove it. Fire Lutz and bring in some new blood. Go out, raise the big bucks and lets at least try to move forward instead of just watching ourselves fall backwards. I’m tired of excuses and bitching. Fire someone. Show us you care enough to risk something if it could mean hope that we won’t suck so much.

Every season there was hope for an invite to the big dance or of a conference championship or of a big recruit or of at least beating Cinci. Now, we’re beggin for tablescraps and the cream of D-2 talent. Where are we supposed to find excitement? Where are we supposed to find hope for our team? Do something! Anything! Burn down the SAC if you think it will light a fire under us. Just do something!

no offense but that would be taking about 3000000000000 steps in the wrong direction.

LOL, I’d never set foot in Halton again.

I don’t know the answer and I am not one to scream about fireing people just because we are not winning enough games. Somebody wins and somebody loses on every game. Everyone cannot always win. With that said, I hate the way this team plays. I miss the CUSA days but I understand there was nothing we could do to change the situation and the move to the A10 was the right decision at the time.

If Lutz does not change the look of this team and the manner in which they play, I believe it is time for him to find something else to do. I hope he has not lost his desire to compete. This is a tough gig and we need to keep that in mind. Yes, I do think a lot of guys would love to come here and coach but recruiting here is harder than most realize. I think he gets another year to get back on track before I throw the towel in.

Survivor makes some good points inside his conspiracy coaching. I don’t necessarily believe Lutz has been “fired” per say, but that the team still plays like they did in the CUSA. We still attempt the “gimmickery” to beat teams that most of us can see we have more talent then in the A10. Instead of playing hard nosed D and being efficient we still fun and gun. With that style we would beat the bottom half of the CUSA and be able to take shots at the top of CUSA and sit among them. The A10 rather is a rugged, grinding, hard-nosed conference. Want a good point… Our last year in the CUSA we played GW at Halton and lost. Yea, it was an early season game but they weren’t even the team they were last year and we were twice the team we were last year. Its the clash of styles. We had the open looks at the 3’s and the fast breaks in the ol’ CUSA but in the A10 its balls to the wall D. So if an out of conference foe wants to see how to beat us, they now have a whole season’s library. The same ol’crap doesn’t work anymore. I don’t think the player talent is drastically different. Its a down year b/c we’re young and do not have a significant post presence to balance the attention the D shows our shooters, and… we’re just plain bad at the moment for multiple reasons. So many of the other coaches in this conference teach solid fundamentals and have actual system offenses, the Run and Gun doesn’t work here. If and/or when we get a new coach, he’ll need to be a staunch fundamentalist (nothing wrong with 3’s aslong as they’re good shots), have discipline of himself and team on offensee and defense, and pretty much just be cool as hell to the fans (some coaches just are not personable).

We hire a marketing firm to do a branding study on our coach and our athletic director. We pay them $250,000 to come up with a slogan to make us feel good about our coach and athletic director.

Bring back the 'stache?

I know it kills me to say it but I hope we don’t win another game this year. I hope we lose to St. Bona, Duquesne, North Texas (oh my bad we already have) and all the other scrubs out there, Hey I’m surprised we beat UNC-A

The only way we can find out if change is going to take place is if we have one of these seasons. I would respect/support Judy and our program/Athletic Dept. much more if she got a successful coach with a good track record and has coached in the big time games and sent Lutz packing if we had one of these seasons. But if Judy brings in a dead beat who will continue to lose games to the Valpos, North Texas’, and ECU’s of the world then my support/respect will be gone as long as Judy Rose is AD.

But, if we win 15 games and just miss out or just make the NIT and have another “mediocre” season this year then Lutz will still be here. Judy Rose loves mediocre, because she knows she can get by with it. This is relevant with her lack of push of Football. If she wanted Football it would get done soooner or later, remember she has pull. Judy just seems too relaxed and confortable in her postion to do anything right now to do anything.

If we have a DREADFUL season though (8 wins or below) then I think the pressure will be on her and I would like to see how she would respond.

I disagree. If we have one of those seasons, no one will care enough any more and the administration will have won. The End.
Can’t imagine Lutz being here much longer. Who do you guys realistically want in the offseason? Could you guys pick off Marshall at Winthrop (that’s his name, right?)
If Calamari doesn’t mind a pay cut, up for a challenge just to see how good he is. Of course, he could always crawl here and beg for a job with Judy.

I was just thinking about the professional obituary that would be written on ESPN.com if Lutz was fired at the end of the season.

Coach Bobby Lutz, in his ninth year at his alma mater was fired this week. Lutz won 2/3 of his games at Charlotte and is the #35 on the all-time win list of active coaches. In his nine seasons Lutz led the Niners to post-season play seven times with five trips to the NCAA tournament. Lutz has graduated 90% of the players that have completed their eligibility at Charlotte and incurred no NCAA sanctions during his tenure as head coach.

Athletic Director Judy Rose stated that Charlotte could no longer put up with this level of performance and released Coach Lutz on Monday. Rose stated that a national search for a new head coach had begun and she felt that candidates for the job would respect the program’s committment to winning and willingness to cut its losses.

I agree with you BigTime. Lutz has won a lot of games but this team looks a lot like last year’s. Terrible on both ends of the court with great shooting being the only way to win games. I don’t think he has lost his passion. In fact, I think he was re-energized with the new life from the 4-5 freshman and a “promising” PG. I think we get it turned around enough to win 15 games. He gets another year to turn it around and if it doesn’t improve, I think he’ll be in agreement that a change is needed. Change for him and change for the program.

Excellent point. It just all depends on the level of expectations from the Chancellor, AD, and fans.

Survivor makes some good points inside his conspiracy coaching.

My thoughts were based not on conspiracy; My thoughts were based on delusion.

Conspiracy is when you think the black helicopters are out to get you.

Delusion is when you think a black helicopter is going to come and whisk you away to a better place.

The things I’m hearing from the coaching staff are things I haven’t heard since … well, since ever. It’s stuff I would expect to hear from Coach Chaney, not Coach Lutz. Recently, I’ve felt like we should have scrapped the whole damn thing and start back to zero. Now that in my mind we have scrapped the whole damn thing and started from zero - I’m beginning to realize that zero isn’t all that fun of a place. I feel like better days are ahead - but I’ll admit it’s pretty possible I am just imagining things.
