The EV news thread šŸ”Œ

The cutesy b.s. like lack of manual door handles and climate / volume controls, and no driver gauges console are EV inspired ā€œinnovationsā€ that need to go away really fast.

Lexus doesn’t even have manual door latches anymore. It’s an electric switch, and there’s no moving part, it just scans to see if your hand is on the lever. HATE.

Totally agree. Would much prefer the standard gauge clusters and buttons.

I am absolutely positive part of it is the giant display is actually cheaper than having all the needles and clusters and buttons and gauges and easier/quicker install.

That’s just Fn stupid. Why buy any EV sports caresque model at that price when a 4 door version run of the mill EV yields near identical performance for less and is more practical.

I tend to agree with the bottom video.

The battery might can handle it but that is an F-TON of current to deliver that fast. The practicality is that it’s too hot, etc. Even if they pulled off the chargers to do it, I bet their fail rate will be enormous.

I’d be curious what the 9 min charges it to. My buddy with an I3 said his ā€œfull chargeā€ is actually like 75-80% and that’s how they get the long life.

Well those batteries do have reserve capacity, but as far as the %, that isn’t consistent. Some makes include the reserve in that calculation, others do not.

Thing to keep in mind is that this would be the first commercially viable solid state battery, and that tech alone is a game changer.

This posts encapsulates exactly how I feel.

I can live in the future with an electric drive train and advanced technologies but I want tactile interfaces with the car.

Of course I consider cars like this to be some of the finest examples of vehicle design of all time.

Give me some classic car design anytime.

U.S. Navy gets it.

Touch screens suck. I’m glad my ioniq 5 has a fair amount of actual buttons, and most of the other features I use (like heated seats) only one tap on the screen.
