The official movies I did not see in a theater thread

Shutter Island

What a weird movie. Im not sure how i missed it for this long but its a neat little noir style thriller with a twist ending that i have questions about but dont want to spoil for the remaining 4 people on earth that havent seen it.

As one of those 4 people, I appreciate that.

I liked shutter island, but it meanders a little too much for me and starts to come apart before the movie ends.

Great movie. Even better book.

Not sure if this has already been listed or not. But I saw Mud(Matthew McConaughey) this weekend. I thought it was a good flick. A somewhat new version of Stand By Me. I think the movie suffered from poor/low promotion, because it should have been discussed more than it was.

Fun Fact: The director is the brother of the lead singer of Lucero.

It really seemed to get overshadowed with Mcconaughey’s other movies like Dallas Buyers Club and Wolf of Wall St… He really have a pretty remarkable year movie wise.

Very good movie, I thought the two boy actors were really good.

I watched the Hunger Games… wasn’t bad, but I wasn’t really impressed either. Jennifer Lawrence is a good actress, but left quite a bit to be desired as far as a movie.

The Perks of being a Wallflower- a very good indie movie about how shitty it can sometimes be to be a teenager. Emma Watsons in it so theres that. My only complaint about the movie is that the group of friends hear a song (We can be heros- Bowie) in the car and have this moment with them but spend the next year trying to find the song when in reality that task could be accomplished in about 30 seconds in 2014. I have no clue why that bugged me but it did. Apart from that its a great movie.

Hunger Games is a decent series…books and movies…but it’s also one that if seen after the hype will almost be a guaranteed disappointment. The first one was ridiculously low-budget in comparison to the second. It was filmed mostly in NC.

Jennifer Lawrence is the same way to me…if you see her roles independent and without knowing all the hype, you’d be pretty impressed with her. If you see them after, it’s hard to live up to it. She was awesome in American Hustle. I was underwhelmed by her in Silver Linings Playbook considering she won the Oscar.

I may have phrased it funny. I thought she did well in the movie, but some of the other actors were piss poor I thought.

Maybe Silver Linings Playback had the same hype effect for you? The “she won an Oscar, so she must be great”. I saw it before she won the Oscar and thought she was great in it.

I think that’s exactly what happened. I still think she did really well in it, I just never really got why she blew up over Amy Adams. She does well given the material in Hunger Games as well. I just don’t agree/necessarily understand all the hype.

clt says she is not unattractive.

Robocop was decent for what it was. Pretty much what I expected. Definitely nothing great. Strong cast…really didn’t do much with it though.

Kick Ass 2 - I’m not really sure i got the appeal of these movies. I mean they werent terrible and had some fun parts, but i remember hearing so much buzz around these movies when they came out and it seems to me it was really just because there was a little girl who cussed a lot in it.

The Heat- My wife picked it. Its bad. Buddy cop movie with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. McCarthy has made a lot of money being the overweight foul mouthed buddy. Sandra Bullock is one of those actors who continue to baffle me when I think that she is an A list celeb. I’ve not seen Gravity, but I cant really think of a movie where I thought shes been amazing. Shes definitely not in this one.

Dallas Buyers Club.

Thought the acting by MM and Leto was good, but overall the movie was kind of a letdown.

12 yrs a slave- A fantastic movie worth every bit of hype and acclaim it received. A movie that kinda sticks with you for a while after you watch it.

Its a Disaster- totally great movie with David Cross and Julia Stiles not being terrible. Its on Netflix instant. The David Cross character slayed me in the end.

I’ve already watched this movie twice, America Ferrera is fantastic in this movie as well.
