Mack’s coaching record was fantastic until his last 2 years a Louisville. What happened at Louisville those final 2 years? Portal? Injuries? Another Covid sob story like at Georgia?

….whut? Extortion for whut?

Mack was suspended from the first six games of the 2021–22 season. The university claimed that Mack violated the school’s guidelines while dealing with former assistant coach Dino Gaudio’s extortion attempts. Unbeknownst to Gaudio, Mack recorded the conversation in which he fired the assistant coach and was threatened by Gaudio for doing so.[9][10] On January 26, 2022, it was announced that Mack was out as head coach of the University of Louisville

Pastner has had success & some achievements.

Checking his wiki for example he won the ACC Tournament in 2021, did we even qualify for our Tourney that year??:rofl:

I’d be happy with the ones that have increased their odds, especially Richey or McCollum

What I’m hearing, which means nothing, the rumor is that it is McCollum’s job unless he turns it down.

We all know the rumor analogy.

Gaudio is the ass in this. Chris Mack was right to record it, even if that got him dismissed. However, I can’t help but wonder how the conversation would have changed if not recorded. In any event, Chris Mack would be a steal who could recruit in many regions

He would be foolish to turn the job down, especially if Mike brings in the help he will need to transition to a much bigger program. I would be happy with him as long as he can build upon his small college experiences, without using them as a reason to not embrace the rapidly changing dynamics of tier1 NCAA basketball

Hell no to Pastner. Old ACC team fired him because he couldn’t cut it in ATL? Right?

I hope our list of candidates is accurate and rumors are true instead of getting someone we’ve never heard of

BTW, reminded Mack not only ACC extorted, though the false allegations leveled against Pastner were much more serious than those claimed by Gaudio:

McCollum definitely the most accomplished coach while at Northwest Missouri State but see that another one time coach there would go on to a Hall of Fame career - Henry Iba. Won two NCAAT championships at Oklahoma A&M - now Oklahoma State - and two gold medals as the coach of the US Olympic team. One of his players at the 1964 Tokyo games was Jeff Mullins!

But check out the Schools on the schedule, a bit brutal to go thru it and try and recognize the names…

Probably a great coach but does he have the experience to start the re-build we need as we move up in Competition?

Definitely recognized that last opponent - Southern Nazarene. We were in contact with one of their players after he entered the portal - 6-3 G Javon Jackson. Scored 24 in that 61-57 NCAAT win over Northwest Missouri. Ended up transferring to Utah State.

See that NIL at Northwest Missouri State pretty quaint compared to D-I:

McCollum’s record suggests that he could coach young men anywhere. The concern is that he takes too much on or doesn’t take enough on with the help of qualified people who are eager to help him win.

If he gets a general manager type to help him the first two years, one that reports to him and only him, so that he can still use the coaching skills that made him successful, I would like our chances of success.

The problem is that it’s way more complicated here than there; akin to Austin Pea. Will you get a head coach that stares at adversity like a dear in the headlights, or one that can evolve towards winning in any situation?

Firing Lutz was the worst day in our athletics history.
