If your standard was NCAA tourney and you hadnât made it in 5 years, do you have a choice?
Sanchez
No. Judy hiring his replacement was where things went south.
I would love to know the true and complete story of the player getting struck. Context and what was the trigger, right, wrong or gray. Sometimes these incidents get reported like âGregg got out of bed, tan to the gym and sucker punched me. I didnât do anything wrong. He just randomly hits people.â
Did Gregg learn his lesson? One would hope so, but he also squeezed over $1million per year up to 7, probably agreeing to fade away and do nothing, say nothing, print nothing more about the allegations.
Not against getting Marshall but donât think its happening. Ben McCollum I think would be a great hire. Its not a 100% fact but coaches that can coach usually are good anywhere. Iâll take the shot rather than hire a retread. Heâs early fortys, full of energy. He wins every year. Gives credit to the players and the staff around him. I think we take the chance on him before someone else does. What do we have to lose? Canât go much lowerâŚ

Iâm hearing Ben McCollum to Charlotte has real legs and if it happens itâs going to be the most fascinating experiment of the last decade or two in college basketball. Genuinely worthy of a Netflix special.
Experiment???
Sounds so promising
Could be leverage attempt to get a better counter offer. Could be fine print issues. Could be lots of things.
clt wonders if the rumor will get legs again
when it comes to gregg marshall personally Iâm not that concerned about the whole striking players and staff and yelling at kids to get out of his parking spot stuff. some people can be real hot headed but with anger management classes can show that you are really trying to fix those problems. plus I could easily see myself telling someone to F off if they are in my parking spot.
its the race card allegations that you read in some reports that would be a harder sell. I think not only to the students going to school here. but to the recruits you are trying to get on campus to play for you. and whether those allegations are real or not. once you get branded with that stuff its a lot harder to clean that from your image from that label then it is compared to hitting someone.
also Iâm iffy on pastner. I mean maybe Iâm remembering the reasons wrong but didnt most people think the main reason he was ditching memphis for georgia tech was due to the fact that he was seeing the writing on the wall that he wasnât getting the results that memphis wanted and were getting ready to can him so he jumped for the georgia tech job while he still could?
also pass on crean since I think most know by now heâs a dwayne wade baby
Exactly
Pastner is a terrible coach.
also looked up Mark Gottfried because I completely forgot about him. it seems his show clause is finally up so that wouldnât be too much of an issue and he had some decent results at Alabama. I would put him ahead of pastner or crean in the retread gambles.
Although obviously chris mack is my number one choice.
Reading the Bart Lundy is now in the mix for the job at Charlotte. His record at High Point was not that great with only one 20+ game season. I donât think he is the answer. Prefer Richey or McCollum.
Gottfried got busted at State AND at freaking Cal State Northridge. Why would anyone consider him a viable candidate?
Gottfried was hired as head coach of Cal State Northridge on March 12, 2018.[18] The infractions case at NC State was announced shortly after the end of Gottfriedâs first season, leading Yahoo! Sportsâ Pat Forde to recall that CSU Northridgeâs decision to hire him had been much criticized.[14]In April 2021, CSU Northridge placed Gottfried and his staff on leave amid an internal investigation into potential rules violations in the basketball program.[19] He never returned; he and CSU Northridge mutually agreed to part ways in December 2021, shortly after he was handed a show-cause penalty for the violations at NC State.
Crean wasnât just about Wade, although Wade was a big reason for the Final Four run. He made the NCAA three more times at Marquette the five years after Wade left and then four times at Indiana twice winning the Big Ten regular season and making the Sweet 16 three times.
Creanâs issue were he didnât win big at Indiana where making the NCAA every year is not enough. Then after he left there he did nothing at Georgia. Its all moot because its highly doubtful he is even being looked at for the job nor should he be.
I mean wasnât he mostly busted for getting his players getting paid or were there other things? If his issues were mostly that he had bag men getting players paid fans could probably now say we are in the NIL era now and waive off the issues.
The problem with bag men coaches is that was their gimmick. Now that everyone is doing it, whatâs their angle? And those resources likely wonât be available to land guys like that here.
