The portal is closed and a coaching change wonā€™t automatically make a player eligible for a waiver, as Jose Perez found out when Manhattan fired HC Steve Masiello less than two weeks prior to the Jaspersā€™ season opener this past year. Perez attempted to gain immediate eligibility to play 2022-23 at West Virginia and was denied by the NCAA.

Iā€™m voting for interim. Unless we go for a big name that is retreading and wasnā€™t part of this past cycle, letā€™s hold up for a year. We are gonna suck regardless of what we do next season.

Mike Brey? I know he wanted to coach again and USF turned him down. I think he joined the Hawks as an assistant. Iā€™d make that call if I was Mike Hill.

Really Odd timing here. Hope something positive works out but not
feeling it right now. Agree on Bryce, really wish it worked out here for him and If he left due to Ron staying - that really just sucks.

Will never know the full story, but guys donā€™t just walk away from D1 head coaching jobs.
Maybe he was promised the job at VA, but I just canā€™t see that.

Walking away from a D-I HC job is rare but it does happen.

Rich McKay did it to become the AHC at Virginia in between stints as HC at Liberty.

Buzz Williams left New Orleans to become an assistant at Marquette.

Chris Holtmann left Gardner-Webb to be an assistant at Butler.

And Bobby Lutz left G-W to become an assistant at Charlotte!

Maybe------but he is a heck of a lot better coach than Sanchez---------of course, there are probably hundreds who fit that bill.
