The Search for a New Men's Basketball Coach has begun

He was the first name that came to mind too. Either someone like him or we stick with our current staff as interim.

Good lord. Please stop with the bobby nonsense

Not sure he would do it…nor would I think Mike would want to.
But…
This late in the cycle…if we truly needed an interim for 1 season until a new permanent coach can be hired…and if he was willing to agree to that…I would love to see Lutz be that for us.

I’m hesitant about this but if everyone agreed it was going to be for one year only up front and no hard feelings, I could get on board with it. Would absolutely have to set fan expectations and then knock the hire out of the park though.

Not sure Bobby would want to add a losing year record to his overall total.

…but just what would happen, if he KNOCKED it out of the park that one year…against all odds?

Sanchez had to go hes a nice guy but not built to be the head coach of any school

We have to hit a home run with our hire. We are all tired of being non competitive for almost 20 years.

He’d turn 66 in April and ride off into the sunset, having done all he could to fix his relationship with his alma mater, and we’d say ā€œThank you again, Bobbyā€.

Did not see this coming…time to buckle up, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

I’d be good with that…

If we do an interim for the upcoming year, we should be able to throw some money around the following year.

I think one thing some people are not thinking about (even though we all agree that RS was NOT ever going to get the best out of any group of players) is what if the new guy is REALLY good------maybe the roster is/could be a lot better than we think. Honestly, with RS running the show, we never learned what kind of talent we have/had.

I would love to get to get chris mack and have been pushing for him since he got let go at louisville. but I think he said he was taking another season off to recharge and would start searching again in the next off season. so we would likely have to make a big offer to get him right now.

I think they go intern right now and try to use the season to evaluate available coaches for 2024. the timing is just weird. unless they have a very solid offer from someone. chris mack would for sure be on the top of my list though.

Mack had a rough ho with all the sanctions Louisville had. I agree with it being dependent on where his head and his energy are at now. On paper, he has the potential to be a very good hire for both us and him. But that’s where doing your homework factors in. The difference between a good and a bad hire.

Someone I was just talking to also suggested Darris Nichols from Radford (believe he is a package deal with his older brother Shane).

Like Nichols, Kane has the Florida connection. Unlike Nichols, no HC experience.

I don’t believe next season is necessarily going to suck.

The only givens about next season seem to be FAU as the favorite and Tulsa and UTSA bringing up the rear. Wide open otherwise.

You might be right. The timing makes it hard to hire a good head coach for next season, though. Hill is in difficult position. We were going to be non competitive in 23/24 and we probably will still be. Whoever the permanent hire is better be doing some heavy recruiting. I don’t know if we should make that his only job for now or allow him to spend time installing his system on short notice with the current team. Either way, get ready to suffer through another lost year.

Wish I could agree and hope you are right.

Make a gentlemans agreement with Mack for 2024-2025. Give him a year to reset and go with Fearne as interim till then. Mack would be able to reach out and shadow recruit without restrictions for over a year till he takes over.
