Looking forward to watching Shogun next month
Yeah me too man. Enough that it warrants a reply rather than an emoji. The teasers look really good.
This i believe is a remake of the 1980 TV mini series, which, IIRC was also released as a movie? Itâs actually old enough that I donât remember. What I do remember is that the mini series was pretty good, and the book it and this new version are based on is a huge international bestseller, so the source material is awesome.
A landmark in the miniseries genre, which occupies a permanent niche alongside âRoots,â âCentennialâ and âRich Man, Poor Manâ, this 12-hour, six-part adaptation of James Clavellâs best-seller follows the fortunes of an ambitious English navigator who is shipwrecked with his Dutch crew in feudal Japan, finds himself enmeshed in a long battle between two powerful warlords⊠Unique in its initial presentation with much of it spoken in untranslated Japanese (subtitles were added in its network rerun several years later), it had a voice-over narration by Orson Welles, made a matinee idol of Richard Chamberlain, and introduced to American TV veteran Japanese star Toshiro Mifune (as the Shogun) and newcomer Yoko Shimada (as Chamberlainâs interpreter).
This has a lot of huge sleeper hit vibes. Maybe Game of Thrones level.
(Edit - when I first posted the description blurb above there were a couple of spoilers in it - Iâve deleted those. Sorry for anyone that saw them).
Everything about this production looks good. Show runner was the co-writer of Top Gun Maverick. Having a hard time holding in the hype for it.
The fact that it doesnât debut til February 27th makes it a tad easier.
Something tells me this is going to be a monster hit though.
Whatâs the show in the lower right?
If you had The Wire instead of whatever that is that would be the Rushmore of TV.
Itâs True Detective Season 1. Which was fantastic.
Hereâs another promising show:
Are we finally getting back to making quality TV series again? Dare to hope?
Could be another whole thread.
Iâve been looking forward to this one
Iâve been watching Dark in netflix. A German series. Itâs wild.
I watched Dark with my family several years ago. In full. Thatâs not typically my cup of tea but it was so quality it pulled me in.
It was a mind bender for sure. Really enjoyed it.
Starting watching The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix. Pretty good so far.
Only needs to come back if they can bring back the orginial cast, otherwise make something new. I hate how offten we get reproduced content.
I just discovered Blue Mountain State and I canât stop laughing. Kind of weird seeing Reacher in his younger days. Thad has to be one of the best character, ever, imo. Oh, I canât imagine a show like this being made today. Iâm on season two.
