I think part of this is the problem of movies being so damn long now… 20 years ago most movies were 1 hour to 1 hour and a half, I remember when 2 hour movies started coming out and we all thought that was a long time.

Dune was awesome but it should have had a fricken intermission, I had to go pee twice and just said screw it and went out of the theatre, if I was in my own house, I hit pause, get another beer and get back to enjoying the movie.

Add to that the expense of snacks and idiots on their phone next to you and it doesn’t suprise me people want to stay home.

This is the TV thread, but having said that, if you didn’t see Dune 2 in at least a Dolby cinema with an extra large screen, then you didn’t really see Dune 2. That’s an experience that is really hard to replicate at home.

clt says it is all about pausing when needed. having a 4k 80" screen with true surround sound is so easy now, even clt has it

Really enjoying Shogun so far, even if I sometimes watch it when I am so tired that I have trouble keeping up with the parts that are subtitled.

Episode 6, which focused on the crap that the women go through, was a bit of a snoozer. Probably moreso because of pacing than content, but it was a bit light on both til the very end.

I think something big is happening probably next week. Excited for it. When this show is good (which is most of the time), it is really good. I suspect this was a bit of a filler episode before they blow the budget in the last episodes. I’d say more but… Spoilers.

What’s the word on 3 Body Problem? Anyone watched it?

My early impression from the internet was that it was meh but it got a good review from the guy on Fresh Air and the guys on the watch podcast seem to like it.

I keep meaning to watch it but have been too busy.

Didn’t Dan & Dave (aka the 2 who were geniuses but then fucked up GoT) do this show?

Would love to get someone’s opinion on it.

Yes they did.

Also involved was a person who was influential on the show True Blood. Also an adaptation.

I wonder if they would have screwed up on GoT as bad if GRRM had finished the damn series first.

Btw.

Was GRRM not finishing the series in time?

  • The ultimate FU to HBO for some reason?
  • Him sucking every penny out of this franchise knowing at some point he can release the final book with a different ending and make even more bank.
  • Writers block.
  • Wanting to stick it to Benioff and Weiss
  • Just lost interest and artist gotta art their own way.

BTW. If anyone on here has not read Lucky Wander Boy by D. B. Weiss. It’s a great book.

I’m sure the majority of the board has read it though. lol.

I only sought it out because I have a love for fiction and non fiction set in the video game industry. Not sure why.

None of the above.

He finally got some money and some adulation / clout that he never had, so he fully lost his motivation.

Guess you never watched The Godfather

3 Body Problem episode one was very good.

Hopeful this series will end up being awesome.

I watched the first episode last night and thought it was pretty good. Once I figured out it was non linear and who was who, the show began to make more sense.
The first five minutes of the Cultural Revolution were intense. Apparently, there’s a Chinese version tv series that aired on Paramount a couple of years ago. Haven’t checked to see if it’s still available.

I’m halfway through episode 3.

It’s holding the quality if not improving it.

If you read the book you will notice that there are quite a few changes which I imagine were because they could not film in China, but for the most part the key elements are there so far.

Not in the theatre… I was born in 81… so yeah…
