I rank The Wire a very close second behind The Sopranos

I love the sopranos, but i think the wire is on another level from every other show. It’s universal themes, writing, casting, layered characters, metaphors, etc, just put it on another level. Every detail, every scene matters and you notice new things every time you watch it. Also, it’s so unbelievably realistic.

I put it behind breaking bad, but yeah it’s amazing and if you haven’t seen it it’s a must watch.

This fandom is so much fun. I’m so glad this exists.

Well .. that was BLOODY.

Absolutely incredible episode last night. It had it all.

So much of what has been made in the last several years is poorly written and acted CG slop that somehow costs hundreds of millions of $. Yet here is a show on a realistic budget (reports are between $6 million and $10 million per episode, vs something like the acolyte which reportedly cost close to $30 million per episode), maximizing what they have and churning out excellence. :ok_hand:

FWIW, I don’t think this episode was as good as the very best episodes of GoT, but it was up there. I’m in the ā€œflashback was a little too longā€ camp. Still, it was very good, if hard to watch at times.

Facts. Raymun Fossaway is the Samwise Gamgee of AKOTSK.

Everyone needs a Raymun at their side.

I love the depth of the writing. You don’t to be a GoT aficionado to enjoy this show but if you are there’s a ton of context in many lines of the dialogue. Aside from that the friendships AKOTSK are so powerful and well developed. I didn’t think Hollywood had writers that could make stories like this anymore.

The writing was highly faithful to the books, but aside from the site gags I complained about earlier in the season, what they added was also good. The fleshed out Duncan backstory was very solid, and in keeping with what GRRM wrote (unlike much of what Benioff & Weiss tried to add or invent) though they did change Rafe from a boy to a girl. Probably for a more emotional hit.

I love that they showed Arlan wrecking two Goldcloaks less than half his age, even though he was piss drunk. Established him as the formidable knight Dunk held him as.

Then there are so many tiny little details and even some that were unnecessarily faithful but all the more fun for it. Like this one:

That was hilarious. This was also him BTW:

They were supposed to do something like that with Darrio Naharis in the original show but they chickened out (I wondered if this was another dig at previous showrunners):

The wife and I watched the Downton Grand Finale movie this weekend. A pretty fitting end for the series as a whole.

If you enjoy period drama and British television, it is worth watching all the seasons and the 3 movies.

Dunk reminds Arlan of Roger.

I know I’m being a total pest, but this is so much fun. It’s been too long.

Binged Sirens last night. Wouldn’t recommend unless you just out of things

Discovered a comedy from the late 2010s on Netflix that has been good the first three episodes.

Called Detroiters.

if you like Tires, Broad City, Always Sunny, this might be a good show for you.
