It’s really beginning to look like Coach Alvin’s first home game on campus will be against Bill Belichek… can you say “Spotlight game on national television “…this could be fun!!
I hear College Game Day is coming
Since most kids don’t stay but for a year anyways…he should hit the portal hard with…come here for a year with a chance to beat App and UNC (with coach Belichick) and travel to play at Georgia
Can you find a better schedule to play and show out to go get your next P4 bag
Definitely a great opportunity!
I have seen a lot of predictable chatter from tarhole fans that the game should now be moved to BOA….HELL NO!
That’s a possibility haha.
Actually most kids stay more than a year, but that’s the across the board average. That said, no denying that FBS coaching changes cause greater turnover than the typical 20-25% in the so-called portal + NIL era.
What locations in the country does this coach favor for recruiting? Just curious if he has any big recruiting in the region or not.
FYI - just moved the basketball scheduling discussion to 2024-25 Niners Basketball to get this thread back on topic.
All I’ve known to do is look at the past 4 seasons of Ohio’s roster. I’m just regurgitating a brief summary of what I’ve seen on that. And it’s a bit hard to tell with all the transferring these days.
He (obviously) mostly recruits Ohio and that Northern region. Looks like 75% Ohio. After that, it’s spread out throughout the country. I saw several names from CA, AZ, and GA, but no place sticks out as an obvious 2nd specialty.
It’s worth noting that this year’s team had some dudes from Charlotte, NC and NC. Looks like Nick Segarra is a bonafide out-of-HS recruit.

TE - 82 Nick Segarra – Fr. 6‘6“ (257 lb.) Charlotte, N.C. / Charlotte Catholic
DL - 13 Kaci Seegars – R-Jr. 6‘2“ (255 lb.) Charlotte, N.C. / Audrey Kell
LS - 39 Colby Garfield – Gr. 6‘2“ (234 lb.) Clemmons, N.C. / North Davidson
See that assistant AD for football operations Jeremiah Covington is a Wingate grad. Bio doesn’t say if he’s from North Carolina but that tidbit does tell us he attended college here.
Albin should be back in campus today so maybe we will star hearing something about the roster and staff
LS Colby Garfield transferred to Ohio from Eastern Carolina. Before that he was here.
Not well traveled. He needs to cross the Mississippi now.
Not surprised to see this from an Ohio (state) writer. It would be something for this to come from an unbiased party.
For now, we have this list from Athlon Sports which is based in TN. In their ranking of open HC jobs this cycle, Charlotte is ranked 11 and Ohio is 15. According to them, Charlotte is a better head coaching job.

That writer actually from Toledo, which is about as close to Athens (215 m) as it is to Chicago (245 m). Anyway, nice for MAC fans to have someone covering the conference and is serious about the job.
Toledo, which is in Ohio. And Toledo, whose school baring its name is in the MAC, the same conference as OU. As if we care less about App & ECU because they are on the extremities of the state.
The bias is evident and obvious. This is further informed by speaking with and reading all these OU people who can’t bare to look at this situation objectively. I couldn’t (and wouldn’t) say this if these third parties with no dog in the fight didn’t appraise the Charlotte job higher than Ohio (state) folks. Even higher than the OU job itself.
The Charlotte job is regarded as one of the best in the Group of 5.
Per “coaches and sources” on FootballScoop.com. Yet here we are, another Ohio person coincidentally valuing the Charlotte job as if the change is such a head scratcher.
Albins contract here is going to confuse them even more.
He’s doing his job. Would have been great to have had someone at the Big O touting the Niners various conferences from the inaugural Sun Belt season in 1976-77 up now with the American. There have been plenty of teams, personalities, etc deserving of stories that the Observer just dismissed as not worthy due to being within the ACC geo footprint.
Anyway, I wouldn’t spend too much time - if any, TBH - worrying about what a Toledo sportswriter is saying about the Niners. The reality is that we’re probably getting the most ink we’re going to see right now. This whole Belichick hire is going to be the equivalent of CU hiring Coach Prime. Just heard the guys on The Afternoon Rush say this is the biggest sports story of the year in North Carolina, supplanting NC State’s improbable run to the FF during March Madness. If you think it’s maddening now, just wait until the 2025 season gets underway.
Of course, a win vs the Holes at JRS will certainly throw a wrench into the whole Belichick lovefest.
