Are the pieces ( NIL, facilities, $$ support, etc.) in place and the administration in place and everyone on the same page that makes that decision in place to make that happen?
Think we all want the same thing. You just have more faith than I that it is a no brainer pick from these 15 qualified guys and now pick one and lets go scenario.
Over the past 40 years we have lucked / fell into 3 decent coaches Mullins,Watkins, Lutz and they were interconnected so they did not come from the outside hiring process except for Mullins. That record gives me a lot of pause and if we go the 3rd assistant down the bench route I would just as soon have Fearne with a bird in hand scenario.
At the end of the day it does not matter what I think so I am out on this thread for now but we are in a precarious situation with our BB program. That is the only thing I know as a fact.
TSD, of course my comment about your passion was complimentary, why wouldnât it have been? we are all on the same team here!. I have never said Fearne wasnât a good coach. I am saying we, as a program, should look around and see what else is available before staying with an interim. IMHO, extending an interim coach (unless they are killing it) without checking the landscape first seems lazy. He might be the guy, letâs see and let him go through the vetting process with the others.
My bad. Went back and reread. Multi tasking / skim reading Niner board and online Christmas shopping for family members I do not even like at the same time had me misread your reply. Also know that I am not everyones favorite flavor on here somedays. Lol.
Fearne definitely needs a serious interview if only for his straight shooter post game interviews. Got to love that. I think I have a little beaten dog syndrome with the BB situation and our hiring record. I really donât want to go away from Fearne and go for another out of the box who the heck is that route instead and reach a point of no return with our program. Unfortunately. I think we are close to that but the AAC lifted us up for awhile but we have to get it right.
Fearne has shown he isnât an AAC level coach, we need to get someone in here that can compete for conference championships. Fearne just isnât it, like the guy but letâs finally invest at least a 1 mill a year and get some that knows what heâs doing.
It is not time to close this thread.
I saw a team play tonight with toughness, grit and following a rock solid game plan created by a very good coach. Last yearâs team would have never led in this game and if they did would have folded when FAU clawed back in it.
Does it get him the job, no. Do I believe if we finish high in the conference that he should get the job, yes. He is making lemonade out of the lemons Ron grew.
How many times do yaâll talk about our former assistants that we should have kept?
Letâs see how the year plays out.
We need $$$ to recruit more than Fearne needs time. Unfortunate nature of todays game.
We are never going to be able to pay any single player hundreds of thousands to come here, but we need to be able to offer 5 good players $25-50k to come play here to get quality players over other mid major programs.
Reading that makes me want to puke but you are probably right. Sigh. But I think Fearne can coach. I havenât thought that about our last two coaches.
Totally agree. I also think 100% he still can. But f we play like we did tonight for the rest of the season we can win a lot of our remaining games and do something special.
Thatâs actually a good point⌠our new guys next year will be made up mostly of transfers right? So does it really matter that coaches have 3+ years on their contract? Meaning, a lame duck coach recruiting impact really doesnât matter as much as it use to.
I like Fearne as a coach, I just question his recruiting ceiling. But guess weâll never know unless he gets a chance.
