Wright State Postgame

Alan Major Coaching question, plan to submit to the next radio show but wanted to pose it here

Why do our coaches huddle up for almost 30 seconds before talking to the players?

This happened even when we called a timeout. I have never seen a coaching staff do that. Not complaining, just wondering if it was something Thad Matta does, or anyone else for that matter.

The only thing I can think of is that in Majorā€™s recruiting it has been said it is a very team oriented strategy with the coaching staff, maybe timeouts and adjustments are as well? ???

Really cool to see Demon Brown at the game. He was really taking to Briscoe and kept jumping in the huddle and talking to him.

I hate to ask a stupid question but who was the guy in the blue outfit with LA on his hat? he came over to the huddle once and I see him at all the gamesā€¦

Might have been Demon?

Iā€™m not sureā€¦ I normally donā€™t pay that much attention during timeoutsā€¦ especially during that run at the end. Just spent the time scanning the arena and drinking it in.

A lot of coaching staffs do that ID. You see it a lot more in the NBA but I have seen several college coaches do it as well.

Iā€™m not as happy about the zone as some of you as I thought Wright Brothers had plenty of open looks and just missed them. Our guards got out of position which forced our wing guys up and they had several open 3ā€™s from the corner that they missed. The zone was more effective than man to man but I didnā€™t think it was great. That is correctable though as our guards were just coming too far over and then couldnā€™t get back in position after a cross court pass.

I was glad to see the guys hang in there and pull it out though.

Yeah that was Demonā€¦we were sitting very close to him.

Meant to quote your question in my last postā€¦yes that is Demon Brown.

great quote from my wife:

Itā€™s good to see us win when we play like sh*t

This isnā€™t anything personal, butā€¦no way Wilderness should be starting or playing more than 10-12 mins. a game.He really gives us very littleā€¦canā€™t shoot from beyond 5 feet, isnā€™t particularly a great rebounder and often does low bball IQ thingsā€¦Barnett gives us much, much moreā€¦Boy,we really can use a few more scorers. Love that the team showed a lot of heart tonight.

Agreed but who else are you going to start in his place? Sirin is getting better but still has to improve before he starts. Maybe KJ but I like him and Phil being first or second option off the bench.

Phil should start.

I like him in there for good defense.

Agreed.

Quote from the Wright State board:

Good win if youā€™re a Niners fan, but I donā€™t think that confetti at the end was entirely necessary.

Yeah it seems to be going that way, last year he was one of our defensive stoppers, this year with everyone improving their D that doesnā€™t really help anymore. I was really impressed with JB, first time I saw him start in person and he looked very aggressive and smooth out there, but like someone else said who do you start? I guess KJ when he getā€™s his legs back.

Wilderness was atrocious on defense tonight, I thought he was a defensive specialist?

Man I miss sitting down low, it was nice to be that close to the action.

Those refs suckedā€¦ fat out sucked, how are you going to let them grab, push and smack when we are on O then not let us touch them on D?? KJ was playing great being aggressive, 2 of his fouls were total pussy calls.

As others have said, itā€™s amazing how many times phil and Bras had great position on their man down low and we donā€™t give them the ball, they were shorter than us in the front court and we didnā€™t take advantage of it.

Other than that great game, I really love watching this team play, they might not all be the most skilled players in the world on O but they are fun to watch cause they give it their all. Even with the record Iā€™m proud to be a niner this year.
Wilderness was atrocious on defense tonight, I thought he was a defensive specialist?
Yeahā€¦I would also start Phil or KJ or maybe Dew when heā€™s back.Wilderness is swimming upstream as he is almost always playing a bigger guyā€¦+ teams all know that his only off. move is that drive to the bucket.I know Phil can only go a few minutes at a time, but he and Bras in there together do give our opponents some matchup problems

Being as this teams big weakness is scoring,I would much rather have Phil,Bras and Barnett start up front and than divide the sub minutes between Sirin Anjuan,KJ and Dew when he returns.Anjuanā€™s just a #3 without any off. game.

Benching Braswell is a bad idea. He needs more game time to learn than Phil; he is the future. If you want to go to the NCAAs in the next 2 years, you better hope he gets better.

Not to mention, if he doesnt stay happy then he could transfer.

Horrible Calls, Rowdy Crowd, Great Comeback. What more could you ask for for Christmas. Fun Game
