Man! Can’t wait to make it to the Hayes this year and watch the Niners in action! Gonna be better year than last year, with all the new faces. This team shouldn’t have any carry overs from when the old staff was there… gonna be exciting.

C-USA baseball news…

Associate HC Toby Bicknell listed among Top 75 Assistants in college baseball. He was in the mix for the Army job this offseason. I’m sure his name will come up more and more for openings in the future.

D1 Baseball has been breaking down players from the Cape this summer.

Nate Furman & Incoming RHP Donye Evans are listed as top prospects for Orleans.

Here’s a snip: “Evans figures to compete for a starter’s role with Charlotte – something that may not have been possible had he stayed put in Nashville – giving him a chance to boost his draft profile considerably between now and next July. His strong summer, which included a run of three consecutive scoreless starts (and 17 total scoreless innings counting the bookend games), certainly bodes well for the righty.”

Apologies if this has already been posted:

This, if implemented, will IMO short circuit the use of shifts in college baseball. No one is going to want to train players to do something that is prohibited at a higher level.

If shifting helps college coaches win, which I think it does, then we will continue to see it in the college game. I don’t think there is a different skill set needed between fielders shifting and not shifting. This rule is just to increase the offensive numbers in the big leagues.

Its just like the NBA not allowing zone defenses back in the day.

The shift drives me nuts and not because of the D but because of the hitters. Hit it the other way dammit!

clt says the DH is unamerican.

When first implemented, the DH was unNational. Now both leagues use it.

Guys are not trained in their youth to hit against the shift. After a generation, they will learn to go the other way and then teams will start to shift back to the more traditional positions. Old farts will then complain that the game is being ruined.

Well, you’re right. It ain’t coaches responsibility to train the opposing hitters to hit against traditional defenses. Still think the mucky mucks will change the college rules, though.
